Ok so I haven't really touched the NSR over the last few months as I've been busy with a few Trackdays on the nc30 and a trip to the Isle of Man for the classic TT but now I've got a bit of spare time and cash I've dragged it out to get a few bits done, nothing really interesting but it's moving forward.

Footrests needed to be tidied up and fitted:

Had both barrels off to check for any wear and measure all the tolerances:

Luckily everything is in spec bar the bottom ring end gap on both pistons being a little tight, nothing a little work with a fine file can't sort out. The bores both look decent only issue is a small crack in the exhaust bridge on the top barrel:

Had the RC valves and spindles out and cleaned, coked up beyond belief:

Looking quite nice installed, moving lovely and free:

So I'm just waiting on some new base gaskets, circlips and RC valve seals then the engine will be reassembled ready to go back in the bike and see if I can get it running. I'm considering getting a new top barrel due to the crack I've heard of a lot of people running with cracked bridges and no issues but it will nag me every time I ride the bike.

Cadwell next year is going to be fun with some great 400's and some fantastic 250 2 strokes to play with.

Exhaust bridges are common to crack. If you are concerned it should be welded and replated.

Thanks mate, been a bit of a wait for some parts to come through but got the last bits I need for the engine so went down my unit today to get a bit of work done.

Image

Decided to go for the mitaka pistons in the end as I have heard a few good stories about them, they looks good quality and the end pegs are in exactly the same positions as oem which was my main worry.

Had to spend nearly an hour scraping the old gasket off the cylinder:

Little end bearings looked and felt fine but thought it would be best to replace:
Image

Not really much of a difference between old and new considering one is getting on for 30 years old, new ones installed with plenty of 2 stroke oil:

Rings installed on the new pistons and fitted to the rods:

New RC valve oil seals and e rings fitted:

Cylinder re fitted with new base gaskets, I was quite paranoid that the rings had slipped off the rings pegs so I took the barrel off once or twice to check before finally tightening it all up:

Thats all I managed to get done today, hopefully will get back down there tomorrow to do the top cylinder and make a start on getting the engine back in the bike.

Long time no update, slowly but surely been building the bike up I'm now at the point where all it needs for the MOT is a set of tyres and the brakes fitting so I decided to fit the bodywork and see how she looks with clothes on.

The race bike looking huge next to the little stroker.

Maybe have her MOT'd by the end of the year of I can take some cash out of the racing pot.

One of the reasons I decided to not go racing was that it makes you a continuously poor man.

Had a quick blast on my NSR last week. it's bloody quick. So glad I decided to keep it.
