Ok well I got carried away ... and bought another engine.
Its an unknown 'runner' with 40K on the clocks but in quite good condition, for only £120.
Coupled with my old engine (clutch problems) I should be able to make a good race engine and a back up if needed, once I've rebuilt them.

Here they both are

Here is the state of my old engine which has been sat for far too long

The nice thing about the '30 engine is that it's painted where as the '35 engine isn't and looks horrible after a while.

Not yet, have been busy with work and drag racing team

Plan is to get the heads off the new motor for a quick check over and get it in the bike if its all ok.

Then strip the old motor right down and do some tuning.

Got the heads off the 'new' engine, all seems ok, no scores in the barrells, quite polished but can still just see the hone. Piston crowns were quite black so they got scrubbed. Cams and followers are showing their age but nothing to concern me. Just need some head gaskets and it will get put back together, check/adjust valve clearances, then the overall engine clean.

For anyone interested in how the nc30's are marked up for timing.

Hi Timon, what is the finish on the frame and swing arm? the frame looks like its been painted with that chrome effect powdercoat? or is it just polished? is the swinger just vapour blasted/cleaned?

Looking good though, as has been said previously, your attention to detail is awesome, im learning a thing or two. Ive had nuts and bolts chromed in the past but they look too bling, i didnt know zinc was an option, looks far more in keeping and oem!
