I guess its about time i started my own thread with pics and all that ive done so far, its gone like a blur when i actually think back to what ive done and spent on the bike itself. id like to make this like a diary as such so i and others can keep up with its history and progress.
I bought the bike on Sunday June 13th 2010 from a guy in bridgenorth who had listed it on pistonheads, i paid a rather overly priced £850 for an F Reg Grey Import in cosmetically good condition (Crappy fiberglass Fairings) but mechanically unstable and unclean, he was a farmer and just getting to his house in the van was tricky without contemplating on a daily ride up and down that driveway. it had Stainless Steel braided front hoses which had alloy banjos, which i was informed by my mate were an MOT FAIL also the rear BT090 was dangerously low, still legal but low, so i haggled him from £900 to £850, without knowing the tyre would have cost me £120! on our way home (20 Miles) the bike broke down/cut out 3 times down to a fueling problem that we put down to the carbs or vacuum hose. ill continue this in my next post.
I'd been searching for a short while and went through several options before deciding on an NC30, i had it in my silly little head my first bike when completeing my direct access was going to be a Ducati 748. before i settled for a VFR i contemplated on HONDA XR250!
I'd been riding from the young age of 4 I think and then all the way into my teens, then had a road legal yamaha DT50 at 16, when i turned 17 i had me a 1995 RS125RE with a rotax 127 engine, then went to college got stuck into my carrier, bought a car did my driving and then December 2009 dad asked me what i wanted for christmas and i said my bike licence, it cost me £750 odd quid to obtain! passed first time of course on Monday 14th of June 2010.

Re: Porndoguk/RickyB_DJ - VFR400 R3K NC30
after getting the bike home i tried starting her again to no joy, i thought GREAT £850 sold as seen and id bought a right LEMON.
i had my last bike lesson that afternoon before the big test monday morning, as soon as i got home i went into the workshop, stripped all the plastics off to see the bike naked and set to work on the carbs, completely blind, no haynes, and NC30 knowledge.
out came the carbs later that night and i called it a day, i then decided there and then i couldnt be arsed to strip them down i just wanted it on the road so bought a set of carbs of eBay for £50 which claimed they had been Ultrasonically Cleaned, they were english spec 115 & 118 combo but had been fettled with and had emulsions in the wrong sides,
it was then i discovered 400GB where i then joined on the 16 of june 2010, and Cammos awesome thread with the best info i could possibly need at my time of need and with the carbs out.
needles shimmed 0.5mm x 4, emulsion tubes in the right places, slides drilled, jets swapped, 118's and 120's.
put back together and started first time :)

Re: Porndoguk/RickyB_DJ - VFR400 R3K NC30
next on the list was to sort the brake hoses, so i ordered a full set of SS Braided Goodridge hoses of eBay again and paid about £55, swapped the fronts and then drilled the swingarm, and fed it through. bled and bingo, swish looking rear end for the time being that is.
first pics of it at home with the new hoses and FAKE HRC hose

Re: Porndoguk/RickyB_DJ - VFR400 R3K NC30
next was to MOT her, the bike came with a nasty look fuel can and baffle, was great for the MOT, but the MOT tester shaun, his brother tom (pipey) stole my bike from the garage and to it into his workshop, ripped the nasty fuel one off, and decided NOT to fit the scorpion can id bought the week before but to fit the broken tyga can i had,
2 hours later i collected the bike so see a shiny Stainless steel link pipe looking and sounding rather nice!
a few weeks later a rattle developed i thought 2 things,
A a lose braket or bolt on the system
OR
B an engine part had failed and made its way into the exhaust,
i didnt account for this
my little 2 year old son decided to play with my tools and insert the extension bare litterally where the sun didnt shine!

Re: Porndoguk/RickyB_DJ - VFR400 R3K NC30
another day andother project,
i didnt like the 1.5W japanese spec bulbs so decided to change them for the UK 5W Wedge Bulb,
out came the newly purchased dremel, and i set to work on the head lights.
in the process of doing this i dremmeled out for the UK H4 Osram Nightstalker bulbs. and also wacked a realy in on the dipped beam circuit to allow for the extra current and take the load off the switch gear.

my next mission was the tatty looking exhausts.
i had standard/original honda front headers, standard/original honda rear manifold, yamamoto rear branch manifold, and my recently repaired TYGA can.
i bought a wire wheel for my bench grinder, and a set of 3 polishing wheels and soap/waxes.

Re: Porndoguk/RickyB_DJ - VFR400 R3K NC30
in the process of my project i discovered this
so one of my last projects is to restore the bike to its former glory of SEED / Type 2 Colours!
i have limited pics but i did a big overhaul on the front forks,
new silkolene 10W red fork oil, new bushes, new oil seals and dust seals, repainted the lowers in gloss black,
and most importantly RICK OLIVER Springs and spacers. 10/10 improvement
next on the list was to sort the crummy brakes out.
in the process of going to overhaul the front calipers, a friend offered me some calipers that he said MIGHT fit, when i picked them up and compared them to the vfr calipers i thought no chance, but i was wrong these were the CBR600 callipers! and again another email and phone call to my new found supplier of greatness, mr Rick O, again ordered some SES Caliper Mounts, and got raped over a set of £60 goodridge hoses as the only place i could get them on the sunday was one expensive bike shop but i was desperate to get out and stretch the cable.

Steering Damper, i picked up a modestly priced damper from a chappy in the far east, i was very impressed with the quality and look it gave the bike. pics as follows i started with a front faceing mount, i then decided a reverse mount it as it was dangerously close to my knee!

Re: Porndoguk/RickyB_DJ - VFR400 R3K NC30
before my last few outings one being a camping weekend in northwales, where i dropped the bike after slipping on a patch of diesel at sainsburys.
after a trip to woburn safari and back, it was time to take it off the road for a serious overhaul
Powder Coating & Polishing
Subframe - £10 coated
Clocks £10
currently have a shed load of goodies being coated as i type, cant wait to collect more pics to come for them,
