my vfr 400 nc30 project

hi guys im not sure if this is in the right section?

this is my first project so im sure im going to need all the help i can get.

basicly i bought the bike for £500 in may this year. my mate had it sat in his garage for the last 18 months after a minor 10mph drop on the left hand side. he the decided to strip it down and then he lost heart with it and thats how it ended up in my hands.

after a sunday putting it back together





so after all of that i thought i would try my luck and stick it in for a mot, to my suprise all i had to buy to get it road worthy was a new battery and a sidelight bulb. great sucsess.

so after all that i decided that i wasnt going to spend a penny on it , i was just going to enjoy it. ( famous last words)

so now its back off the road again waiting a strip down over winter ready to be ridden in anger next year .

so at the moment i have a few bits in the garage waiting to be fitted

adjustable rearsets
goodridge breaklines
wavy rear disc
new chain and renthal sprockets
hrc rear break kit
pazzo copys
viper end can (which i dont like)

and the plans for the bike are as follows

rs250 rear shock + rebuild
front fork's rebuild
new f+r bearings, linkages, ect ect
tyga rear seat unit
tyga spark or suzuka for fairing
some form of exhaust ie yamamoto
powder coat wheels not sure on a colour yet tho.

so anyway i poped out into the garage for a hour or so to start striping the rear end off today but once i got the chain guard off and the side stand i discoverd my allen keys had grown legs and walked away.

looks like no one has even tryed to get anywhere near where the chain runs as its a mess.

took a few little snaps today, not the best but its something.

if there are any other decent cost affective mods that would be worth doing them let me know.
i look forward to pestering you all when i need help.

Repair the panels but keep the colour scheme!!

Full or half exhaust and get a new shock.

For me, i think you should keep the bodywork fairly standard. Its a lovely paint scheme and looks top notch.
I they look to be in good shape apart from the nose cone. Why not get it plastic welded and repaired??

Suspension, exhaust and servicing would be my "to do list"

Rear shock suited to your bike (rebuilt RS250)
Rick O front fork spring kit
Decent half system
Good service inc valve clearances and fit all the bits you already have.

For me, a nice tidy standard looking bike with a few choice mods will always out weight a tarted up NC with tat stuck to it.

Mine in same scheme...

thanks for the comments guys, yeah 250 shock is on my to do list.
i like the colour scheme but im not overly keen on the rear end.

eek, just priced up some odds and sods for the bike, can say that the wallet is taking a hammering this week.

what i want to know is why is the rear wheel bearing so expensive compared to the fronts?

also i have decided to go for the nc35 single seat unit from jap 4 .

Not sure but I reckon the rear wheel bearing is more expensive because its a lot bigger and a lot more heavy duty, theres only the one bearing to take the whole weight due to single sided swingarm design??

spent a few hours in the garage but had to come in after i ran out of light. got the lh side lower off and front sprocket cover,rear sprocket ect ect and went gunk crazy. made one hell of a mess but its already looking 100 times better.

got the girlfriend to pick me up a baby bath at a car bootsale for £1 which is bang on to wash all the smaller parts in.

found a nice mess inside the fairing



none of the other pics came out very well.

on a plus side got these beautys to go on and iv orderd one of spikes Q/A throttles.
