hello mate i want my paintwork as clean as yours, you say you used rubbing compound? what actually is it and where can i get it from? Excellent bike, very clean!!

the original looks like 'champagne gold' rather than simple gold, i.e. more of a silvery gold colour. so have measured up and ordered some from US ebay. not a huge cost so worth a go, don't want to spend a fortune on cosmetics for what is essentially a budget bike

Well, have fitted the can, rejetted the carbs and taken it for a few rides. have to say that the +2R sprocket, can and jetting have made a huge difference (as did taking the carbs off to clean them properly)
Unfortunately I found a thin film of oil inside the bellypan so have had a look. The bloody alternator cover is cracked so a replacement one is on the cards as well as another gasket. Fingers crossed it will be OK then!
