pulling power!

Post by sqweaka » Wed Sep 28, 2011 7:42 pm

hi im new to bikes and my 89 400 bandit is my first bike!
it seems to have a flat area in the rev range between 6 and 10,000 rpm? is this normal. it pulls well, but if you give it some beens between 6-9 or so, nothing till it hits 10 and then its off.. does it have a power band?

Its not a tough job to do mate, just take one afternoon or evening and you can clean them, check any bits for wear and rebuild it.

Sounds like a carb issue though. Have you checked your air filter? It may need a clean or even replacing. Your fuel lines/filter could be dirty.

I'd replace the fuel hoses then, or just blow them out.

Try changing the plugs as well. When was the last time they were done? It can be worth spending the extra bit to get decent plugs as well.

Check your number and see if it matches with these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350493344970? ... 082wt_1185

update still having problems with this bike.. ive fitted new plugs, and a new fuel line. ive had the carb of and had it cleaned the pilot screws where set at 2 turns out, ive reset them at 1.5 turns which i believe is the standerd setting. it now ticks over badly then stalls, it still has a flt spot in the mid rev range. can anyone advice on pilot and neadle settings or anyother things i should be checking?

thanks

The 400 bandit does have a flat spot at about 6k, mine is the V version and that is good at lower revs and goods at high revs but has a nasty flatspot at 6k, you can see it on the torqu curve

Are you sure it is the right air filter? Are the tops on the vacuum bits where you connect up when you balance them?
