GK76A water temp sensor resistance values

Post by tailongwan » Fri Apr 16, 2021 9:28 pm

Hi all,

I start a new topic to submit a question regarding resistance values for the water temp sensor on GK76A 1991 (non SP).
I found that the water temp gauge is not going up really, just a few mm, even after 10km, and idle at crossing road, traffic light, etc.
So I decided to remove the water temp sensor and test the resistance according to temperature.
Here is a picture of the test:

The values I found are as follows:
30 °C => 625 ohms
40 °C => 390 ohms
50 °C => 255 ohms
60 °C => 165 ohms
70 °C => 112 ohms
80 °C => 80 ohms
85 °C => 67 ohms
90 °C => 56 ohms
95 °C => 47 ohms

> Do you think these values are wrong / right? Should I replace the water temp sensor? I could not find any documentation regarding this.

For instance, on FZR 400, I have these values from the manual:
153.9 ohms @ 50°C
47.5 - 52.8 ohms @ 80°C
29.2 - 29.3 ohms @ 100°C
16.1 ohms @ 120°C

BTW, I checked the gauge also and it goes to the maximum when I shortcut to the ground so it seems ok

Thanks for you help

Approximate readings for temperature senders:

50°c = 154.9Ω
80°c = 52.9Ω
100°c = 27.4Ω

These should be pretty much the same regardless of the bike as they all use the same technology inside.

Higher resistance obviously means a lower temperature reading, yours being so much higher is resulting in your gauge showing lower than actual temperatures.

Thank you MadMotoUK
Indeed i will replace the sensor.

I found on RVF manual it is also lower:
45 to 60 ohms for 80deg
10 to 20 ohms for 120deg
