Make sure the spring is behind it and it moves freely.

As promised, a link to some photos of my ongoing bike build.
I've done loads more to the bike, (pretty much a complete rebuild) but I haven't religiously photographed everything.

Hi moforockband.
Yes, luckily the spring is still in the recess and it disn't get lost.
It moves very smoothly, so no problems there.

However, I now have another problem.
Just received some new piston rings and valve stem seals direct from Japan, which cost an absolute f'in fortune. :o
Picked them up this morning only to realise that I'm now not sure I ordered the right ones for my bike - GK76A 1994

The parts manual I have a copy of states that the correct part number is -
09289-04001 and many other websites confirm this.
However, I just checked on bike-parts-suz.com and they reckon the correct part number is 09289-04003
The only way to check is to compare with the ones already fitted, but won't have time for a couple of weeks.
They have slighly different dimensions to each other, so clearly one is wrong and one is correct.
Can any of you please shed some light on this one?

Ta,
Hubbskiboy.

Wow Hubbskiboy, you've really gone to town on your GK76 ! :o I've just had a look via your photo link. ;)
It'll be a wee cracker when it's finished. 8-) Is there much left to do ?
As for your valve stem seals, is it possible that Suzuki have modified/revised them, hence the difference between the last digits of the Pt. No,s. ?

Hi Wullie,

Thanks for the praise on my bike build!
Don't get much feedback from anyone apart from the people on this forum, so it's nice to have some comments.

It's nearly all there.
I just need to rebuild the top end with new piston rings and valve stem seals.
I also need to clean and inspect each of the valves and check the clearances.
But before I can do all that I'm going to build a quick engine mount so that I can work on it in an easier position.
Probably just from timber that I've got lying around. Will only get used once I suspect! ;)

I've managed to source an almost mint condition original GK76 muffler to go with my Black Widow stainless downpipes, so it should sound pretty good.

BTW. bike-parts-suzuki.com have come back to me after I emailed them and they have confirmed that I have ordered the right valve stem seals (09289-04001). Their listing is just incorrect. Pheeeewwww!

I'm afraid it looks like you have the wrong ones. 04001 is the one you want. 04003 is for later 600 and 750 gsxr's. Flog them (if I am correct), and re-order. Whatever you do, DO NOT use cheaper (eg M+P) valve stem oil seals because it will smoke like a Morris Minor.

From Partzilla (good place to make big orders):

This Suzuki 09289-04003 SEAL VALVE STEM is used on these models and components:

2000 GSX-R750 CAM SHAFT - VALVE
2001 GSX-R1000 CAM SHAFT - VALVE
2001 GSX-R600 CAM SHAFT - VALVE
2001 GSX-R600Z CAM SHAFT - VALVE
