GSXR 400 GK73A strange starting problem

Post by Koliomcrae » Sun Sep 27, 2015 3:50 pm

Hi there. 3 months ago i became a proud owner of a GK73A converted to streetfighter. The engine was completely rebuilt and the bike is (was) in perfect condition. Until yesterday.. I havent started the bike for around a week and i tried yesterday. At first engine started and 3 seconds later it went off. When i tried to start it again there was a heavy bang from the exhaust. And the bike cant start now. I've cleaned the spark plugs as they were wet from petrol from the minutes i spend trying to start it. Same thing... heavy bangs (explosions) from the exhaust and the engine is not starting. The strangest thing is that ive ridden this bike every weekend since i bought it and never had any problems like this. Can anyone help me with this as i dont want to miss the last few sunny day of the year. Thanks a lot....

Can be a few things.over feuling.exhaust valve clearance.can be timing.maybe a timing chain tensioner thats broken.not 100% sure but you can check into that.check your wires by starting from your pickup coil to side stand switch to cdi to coils.

- check 100 ohms ish from 2 wires from pick up coil on lh engine case.
- Check 12volts and ground on orange wire and black white wire to cdi (mine failed here yesterday- bad connection)
- Check battery fully charged and use spare spark plug to check all coils firing.
- all else fails Easy start!!

Last check is to see if your oil level hasn't risen or smells of fuel - bike could have flooded through fuel tap.

Nick.
