GK76 clutch friction plate's

Post by wullie3xv9 » Tue Jan 14, 2014 6:58 pm

Hi folks. Can anyone tell me what the minimum thickness is for the clutch friction plates on GK76a motors. I'm going to check them out once I have the info. ;) I know that it's not recommended to re-use the pressure plate's 5 bolts so can you replace them with any old suitable bolt or does it have to be 5 new OEM bolts?? Thanks in advance.

I don't think I've ever replaced the bolts in a clutch before...

Neither have I but I'm sure that I've read on a couple of GK76 threads that it's not a good idea to re-use the pressure plate bolts as the heads have a habbit of shearing when torqued up !!

Mind you, that could be because they were overtightened by hand rather than using a suitabel torque wrench .....
I always use a little blob of threadlock when re-fitting any fasteners as insurance that nothing will vibrate loose. ;)

I had a look through the GK73 service manual this afternoon & found the service limits I'm after for that models clutch assembly.

Service limit of friction plates = 2.60 mm's. Service limit for clutch springs = 31.0 mm's.

Can anyone confirm that the above limits also apply to GK76 clutches as both models engines probably share the same components? ( I've checked all my clutch spring's free length & they're all bang on the 31 mm limit ).

Thanks in advance. ;)

Wullie.

Edit :- Done a bit more detective work. GK73 & GK76 clutch friction plates have differing part numbers, but both models engines use the same clutch springs so it looks like I need to order a fresh set of clutch springs.
