I have all spark but no fire
Hi all, I previously put up a thread about my CDI poss being nakered I got a new one thru today and I plugged it in and tested it. I now have all 4 spark plugs firing. Happy days. I've attached an auxiliary floating tank to the fuel line and filled with fresh fuel. Opened up the drain valves to make sure I have fuel in the carbs and winner I have.
I've tried turning it over and sometimes it wants to turn over other times Its backfired. Has any one had any problems like this before?
Cheers
JC

Yeah plugs are on the right way 1-4 then 2-3. How would I go about checking that?

Re: I have all spark but no fire
Any one got any ideas as im at my wits end now with it. When i try to start it now the starter motor cranks but then within seconds it slowly starts to die. So my thinking was poss the battery even tho it was a new one. So i tried my Z1000 battery in it and still it cranks slowly untill it dies off. Am i right in thinking its the motor that is the cause of this?
Cheers JC

Re: I have all spark but no fire
Have you previously had the bike running?
R hand coil is 1/4 L hand 2/3.
Check choke is opening
12v at the coils orange and white to ground.
Worth checking the pilot screws are 1.5 turns out.

Re: I have all spark but no fire
Nope I haven't had the bike running yet. I bought it as a non runner but the previous owner said it used to run a few years back not a lot to go by I know.
Coils at the mo are LH 1+4 RH 2-3. I have just changed them over to how you said VV but the bike still sounds the same. I'm getting 12v to both coils and a nice blue spark.
The choke slider moves to its open position.
I shall check the pilot screws later on.
Thank you for your help :-)

Pilot screws where 3 turns out I have now set them back to 1.5 turns out. Whilst I was there I cleaned the carbs again checked the float levels. Just tried turning it over and the same happens after a few seconds the starter motor sounds like its dying but now I've had a couple of loud backfires.is this progress?

Re: I have all spark but no fire
Right I've changed the starter motor so now it sounds a lot better and healthy. However still not firing I've had a couple coughs now and again but that's it. I've cleaned the carbs out again. I've dried the spark plugs off. The carb bowls are full of fuel. Any one got any more suggestions as in lost as to where to turn now.
VV when you said about the coil postions did you mean as in you are sitting on the bike looking forward?
Cheers

Re: I have all spark but no fire
Progress at last. I've got the bandit to fire up and she is running on all four cylinders. I went back to the basics with the carbs again cleaning checking the pilot screws which are now set at 2 turns out. I also drained the bowls and checked the float levels and adjusted a couple. I then checked the throttle position and made sure it was set up right.
Put it all back together put a little bit of fuel thru the lines started to turn her over and after a few times she fired up giving me the biggest grin on my face.
However after a minute or so the smoke that was coming out of the exhaust was white and seems to be quite excessive.

What do you think it was ?
Bought a lemon 2 with the same story from the previous owner accept he said he checked his valve clearances before he laid the bike up (why do we do it to ourselves).
Can get the bike to turn over great but all i get is backfires out of the carbs
Got sparks on plugs
