I've got sp carbs by mistake help

Post by dsr91 » Thu Jan 09, 2014 7:26 pm

Hi so I've got a on going problem that I thought I fixed carbs running extremely rich at 5rpm and below causing plugs to foul up in 200 miles ish , I put the bike up for sale then relised I still had the issue so stop advertising bike as I wanted to sell the bike as 100 percent working , so brought a replaced set of carbs to put on but turned out there sp carbs and I have a none sp bike so isit possible to fit new carbs or should it just sell them on to someone who needs sp carbs ? Many thanks sean

Hey,
They will fit but you need the larger inlets and you will have the TPS headache with the SP carbs. Sell/exchange for standard for an easy life if you want to sell on. What`s wrong with the set on your bike now....

Thanks andy sorry about late reply but yeah I'm going to sell sp carbs but my original ones have a on going fault with running rich below 5000 rpm, but I've just rebuild original ones again and now bike won't run at all , it's got spark and it's got fuel but nothing evening tryed carb cleaner throught intake but doesn't even attempt to fire up , at first the temp gauge was going straight off end of scale but that was due to a dirty connection so now I'm out of ideas and starting to give up with it

Hey,
Sounds like worn emulsion`/needle`s(low end richness) plus those carbs are super sensitive on the pilot circuit. The smallest adjustment out and they run like a bag of shite or flood and subsiquently dont start/run. Try leaning the pilot circuit and clean the plugs, start with no throttle and half choke..............
As for the rich running the only answer is new/second hand needles/emulsions,
Andy :(

I agree with Andy, the carbs on these bikes are a pain in the arse. They have to be absolutely spot on or you will get problems.
You might have fouled the plugs trying to start it so sort the carbs then try some new plugs.

You usually need to carefully rebuild the carbs and everything is then ok.
The orings go off letting fuel through and this gives poor low running and engine stays cool on the temp gauge.
Big problem with these bikes after going through a few different owners is that people screw the pilot screws in tight when they should only be gently bottomed before screwing out to set the mixture causing damage to the body of the carb and never ending running issues.
If you rebuild them then really go gentle with them.

yup, same with bandit/gsxr slingshots, peeps screw the mixture screws in tight and it fuks the channels and upsets the fueling,be very careful with them.there sensitive things,

I'd be looking at a compression test too. If the carbs are bore washing then it's highly likely its worn the bores.
