Hi guys,
I am rebuilding a GPZ400R (Engine is a zx400d) after it was stripped due to the previous owner not being able to select gears correctly. While at it I have replaced the big ends and main bearings as the old ones were quite marked.
She only selects first and neutral. While the crankcase is apart, the shift drum operates freely and selects through all the corresponding gears. However as soon as the drive shaft and output shaft are inserted she wont select 2nd.
I have determined that the gears must be assembled incorrectly on the shaft as I can see the gear moving over but not all the way as it gets stuck. There is nothing obstructing it in anyway.
Does anybody have an exploded view of this transmission or a workshop manual for the bike?
I have a manual for the ZX400H which looks mostly similar.
Thanks

Re: ZX400D Transmission
At standstill only first and neutral can be selected..the rear wheel needs to be moving to select second and above gears...
