choke is closing or slipping
Hi again
So I decided to get the ZXR400 and the bike is a beast, its actually a 1991 L1. The only thing bugging me about is that the choke needs to be held open to warm up the bike in the early mornings, the dealer tells me that is how it was made? really? Should the choke be self adjustable or it truly needs to be held open?
If the choke is self adjustable and is probably slipping or closing out how do I fix it? I thought the cable needed adjustment but its seems fine (not loose/enough free play but not too much), maybe I need to take the tank off and inspect the choke cable bracket?
Any suggestions? thanks

An old trick to hold it open is a clothes peg,

Re: choke is closing or slipping
each of the 4 enrichment needles (its not a choke, its a starting enrichment circuit) has a spring inside that gets compressed when you pull the lever. friction between the lever and its housing should hold the needles open, then when you rotate the lever towards the front of the bike the springs will make sure that the needles seat properly.
if when you pull it towards you it starts to move backwards you will need to make sure that you have not applied loads of lubricant/look for damage, between the lever and its housing.
also, even though its removed/lost by most people, there should be an additional spring that goes between the "choke" slide and the plate that holds the end of the accelerator/decelerator cables, if you think your's is slipping you can try first removing this spring?
