headlight bulbs
Helllllp please. Is it just me or is it difficult to find the correct bulbs. Went to bike shop who said they'd not seen any like them been so he checked fowlers site. They sell them at £51 plus vat each. Does anyone know where I can get them or am I just better getting a full unit off eBay.

Try this thread;
viewtopic.php?f=35&t=40628&p=297271&hil ... bs#p297271.
There are also some other options in a query by Chris6409 in a thread somewhere.
You need to put what model in the query unless you wish us to search for what bike you have as well as answer your question !
For example for the 3en2 (sloped headlamps) ; the cheap way is to source complete headlamps from the FZR 1000r model and swap them over (they use the H4 cheap bulb).
For a Genesis/2tk do likewise with a 600 3HE unit.
Expensive in the initial purchase but if the bike is intended as a keeper the bulb replacement price/availability over time will warrant it.
Addition; If it is the trapezoid h/light for a 3tj; there is a model of Fzr 600 3he that has a similar shaped lamp that will
use the cheaper h4 type bulb but I have not heard if it is a possible swap.
In all swaps, one needs the short harness that goes with the replacement h/light to fit the cheaper bulb.

Re: headlight bulbs
91/92 Fzr 600 3he and Fzr 1000 Ru appear to be the options for the headlight swap with a 3TJ
shaped unit.
( projector lamps)
Someone may have tried this.

EDIT; It appears Boris attempted to try this conversion back in 2009.... the replacement lamps use the same expensive bulbs.... so no good.
Here is a bulb option at present;

Re: headlight bulbs
H4 don't work, not even if you take the black paint off the top. Their design is just different and they leave a dark hole in the middle.

Re: headlight bulbs
yeah H4s don't realy work cos of the dark patch in the middle, their designed to shine back and reflect (magnify) forwards off the the back of the light fitting

Re: headlight bulbs
I put the trapezoidal single H4 lamp in my TJ. Must say it's quite good. Haven't put an 'upgraded' bulb or anything in it yet either.

Re: headlight bulbs
the H4 isn't a trapezoidal lamp, it's a reflective lamp and as sutch magnifies the light generated by bouncing it off the rear of the light fitting (ie the shiny chrome bit at the back) the trapezoidal lamp projects the light forwards from the bulb through a set of milky bar kid lenses (alla 3tj) that don't really do allotrockTJ wrote:I put the trapezoidal single H4 lamp in my TJ. looks like you changed the fitting for one with the single H4 lamp from the 600ish
works better than the standard 3tj chippie, but don't keep the twin headlight look at night, although you can probably see where your going

Re: headlight bulbs
I thought trapezoidal just described the shape of the lamp !
