look, these might be the ones!

but now I'm thinking, if I decide to change the fork, do you think it's better to take something like that or to go for an upgrade and take the T-cat forks + calipers?
I've already bought a fork online for my Ducati and I wasn't very happy with the result (pictures looked OK but the stanchions were pitted  )
I wouldn't like to repeat the story...

on the other hand if I decide to re-chrome the stanchions of my XJR400's fork I will end up paying nearly £300, which is the price of a t-cat fork + caliper + seals + oil + several pints of beer ;)

ah, dammit, I'm so confused! :x
and I have the MOT in a couple of weeks time :(

A re-chrome is about £160.

Plus shipping, bushes, oil, seals, and paying someone to keep mi bike while the work is being done (i have no shed nor parking space)

Of course the plus side of this is the fork will be actually NEW after the re-chroming, while if i buy a second hand i might find myself in this very same situation in a couple of years time...

You say shipping,So i take it your not in the UK,
As for buying a used set, unless they have already been rebuilt,
You will have to do them sometime,And they are still secondhand.

no, no, I am in the UK. I live in Scotland.
the problem is I'm here temporarly so I don't really have any tools with me, so I cannot take off the forks myself...
that brings the total cost of rebuildng the fork up because I need to pay a garage to do the job, plus the rechroming.
the total will be around £300...

if I decide to rebuild the fork, would you advice to rechrome the stanchions or to buy them new?
I see wemoto has Paolo Tarozzi stanchions for just a few quids more than the rechromed would cost.

Are they badly pitted ?
If it's a couple of small ones then you can rust kill them, fill with superglue, then get a razor blade to take off the excess

Surely you can borrow a couple of spanners from someone,
Or go down the market and get a couple of cheap ones,
It's only wheel spindle.pinch bolts.caliper and fork nuts.
And an allen key for the bottoms.

I could do that, but I will also have to find a way to keep the motorbike with no front wheel...

today I tried to lay it down and see if the job was feasible that way, but no, not really. this in case I decided to buy a fork to fit straightway because of course I cannot keep the bike laid down on the street for two weeks

I thought to use a ladder to hung the bike front, but again, I'd need to leave the bike for two weeks hang to a ladder. I don't really like that...
