FZR400/600 ENGINE SWAP-ADVICE NEEDED

Post by cagiva996 » Mon Aug 18, 2008 6:32 pm

well my 3tj2 expired at rockingham acouple of weekend ago,and decided to take the plunge and have sourced a 4jh foxeye fzr600 which i pick up this weekend, and thought id try and gather some info on the swap.any tips or info would be apreciated.my mate is gonna make the engine mounts and ive sourced a bank of carbs and airbox.i believe i need the 4jh choke and throttle cables, downpipes and ecu.my biggest worry is wiring in the ecu to the 3tj loom as i want to keep running lights, indicators etc as its my roadbike too.i have an fzr600/750/1000 haynes manual but the fzr600 section only goes up to 1993 and i need a 95 4jh wiring diagram and haynes dont seem to list a 95 onwards 4jh one.best of all is when sourced the motor the seller also had a pair of astralite wheels with discs for the sp with wets on-result!!any info or tips woul be greatly appreciated especially any wiring diagrams or wiring tips-many thanks-steve

And I have just started the same project myself!

Although I have bought two complete bikes so I have most of the parts required.

Use the Foxeye loom on the TJ.
The airbox won't fit. I think you need to cut it or take the botom of the TJ tank off and reweld it. Pod filters will work but these engines used a pressurised box so you'll loose a little power.
I think you have to junk the radiator fan to get the downpipes to fit ... but not sure.

Evilchiken i just show this project. Do you have the pattern of the mounting plates this engine swap needs? I'm about to to make the same. :)

I used the 3tj air box on my conversion. It just needs a bit of butchering to fit. I removed the rubber carb mounts from the air box then elongated the hole untill they fit around the carbs. Alternatively pod filters can be used.

Regarding the 4jh wiring diagram, i searched far and wide to no avail. In the end i made educated guesses using the thundercat wiring diagram. Its not the same but similar and the tcat has a throttle sensor! If i did it over i would use a full 600 loom, as i got the engine and electrics to work but the tacho jumps up to 8500rpm every 10 secs. Will eventually be fitting the 600 loom but not till winter time. Dont want to loose any more track time!
