1WG/main jets/paint

Post by notefftwo » Mon May 02, 2011 6:00 pm

A few pointers please. Just got this 1986 Japanese import 1WG fzr400. No ex-up. Is this model restricted and what is the best workshop manual?
Other issues no petrol tap!!!!!??? An annoying red light coming on 'speed'. There are two sort of square bits one on each side of the tank covered in some sort of goo. These look like they should take some sort of fastener for the tank cover but these are absent. Seen three different bikes like this. There does'nt seem to be great info for this model so any guidance appreciated. I was contemplating an RD 350 power valve but this was a tidier bike but cheaper
Do the float heights need to be exactly the same for the 4 carbs.? Seems a bit flat between 6 and 7000 rpms.
It is blue but, don't know if it is standard. I would like to get some paint for touch up. If it is standard colour shouldn't be a problem. Anyone have a paint code?

Hi
I have one of these models. First petrol tap you should find on the left hand side of the engine tucked inside the bike, just infront of where the clutch cable goes in to the sprocket cover. Restriction as far as I know it doesn't have any, but i may be wrong, it doesn't seem it. the tank sides should be held on with a lug and rubber shrouds each side obviously bolts as well. Other than that a cracking little bike I love mine. Best workshop manuals are on ebay. CDrom about 4 quid each. That annoying little red light is a japanese market speed indicator light lighting up at their speed limit of 80kmh.

Good choice that man!

The fuel tap is bottom left tucked at the bottom of the real (black) tank. These usually get broken off when you forget to unscrew the knob before lifting the tank out. I keep meaning to put a big orange sticker on my tank to stop me doing it (again). Instead I just leave the knob off ;)

As for the tank cover fasteners at the side......I leave them off too  The tank cover hasn't flown off yet.

The annoying red light bulb is easily fixed by.....you guessed it......leaving it off lol  I was worried when I first ran my bike but its just a speed warning.

you should be able to download a manual ...I thinks its called the sac model on all the pdfs. Or failing that send me your address and the fairies might send you a bumper disc. ;)

Isn't the SAC model the californian model or 3EN2 which is a later bike.

If you need spares try Fowlers in Bristol - you have to quote your frame number before they'll serve you it's on the V5.

There's top speed restriction that came in in 1988

I always treat the red light as a 'challenge light', to see how far I can go without the light going out

Fuel tap is there, well bits of it. The main jets in the carbs are 87.5 on outers and 85 on inners? Are these correct? I thought bigger jets would have been in middle to keep things cooler. Clip is on 2nd bottom notch on needle. Can this be confirmed as correct position?
