I got a 150 on mine, fit's o.k. about 5mm either side, 17" tyres are easier to come by though.

Does size matter ? it's the compound that counts ...
Fit either, it might be down to what tire you can get rather than the size. In some ways it's better, you'll get a choice of a sport or touring tire so you won't need to agonise over it, just fit and ride.
Changing the rear wheel to a 17" could be more involved, the easy way is to fit a rear from an XJR400 they're quite narrow so it should fit your swingarm. After that you'll need to install a 3TJ rear end which will need a bit of cutting and some spacering.

The XJR400 wheel goes straight in but, and this is quite a large but, you need all of the XJR brake stuff as well because the disc is larger (same as the TRX/YZF750/Thundercat, etc). It's probably the 'easiest' way to fit a 17" rear in the 1WG swingarms.

Im thinking of getting an XJR400 wheel to fit to my 1WG as i want some sticky track rubber. Am i right in thinking the only fitment issue is with the brakes? We have an engineer at work, so making some brackets up isn't a problem

I'm half way through fitting a szr660 wheel. kayla gave me some great advice and I like the fact the disk is the same so it will look a bit more standard to the untrained eye.
I also bought a tzr125r rear wheel which is the right width but too spindly around the spokes for my liking!
The front is a kilo lighter aswell

Yes, the XJR wheel uses a larger disc and that's all. The wheel fits straight in using all the standard spacers. if it's any interest to you, I've got an SZR660 rear wheel (4x17") that's surplusj4cko wrote:Im thinking of getting an XJR400 wheel to fit to my 1WG as i want some sticky track rubber. Ok thanks for confirming the fitment. I'll probably go with the xjr, as I can get the brake setup too. Plus I'm making a track bike, so the bigger rear brake isn't a bad thing really
