fzr4/6--flatside carbs--TPS issue

Post by scooby4/6 » Thu Feb 17, 2011 5:07 pm

i've been lucky enough to get a set of flatsides for the 4/6,but the problem i have is the standard carbs have a throttle pos.sensor attatched where as the F/S dont.

knowing that they came off a sidecar running the same engine,i can only assume that,

A,they didn't need 1 connected up

or

B,they ran a different ECU unit.

can anyone shed any light on it,and be very helpfull and tell me it doesn't need the TPS connecting ;)

cheers

The engine won't need the TPS connecting to run, but it might need it grounding to earth to run at its best and avoid any tacho error codes. The TRX850 has a TPS which, when bypassed, runs the ignition curve at full advance and is good for a rumoured 1 or 2bhp.

The TPS is only there to allow a 3D ignition map rather than a 2D curve.

Dunno if you'll be able to read this thread-

I had FCRs on my TRX with the TPS mod done and it ran fine. FCRs are awesome, contrary to the popular misconception.

If your using a TCat engine you can run it on the Foxeye CDI

does the foxeye not run a TPS?

need to make a few minor adjustments to the ram system to fit the carbs+throttle routing as the connection is at the opposite side of the standard carbs (as in front/rear) and also the action is opposite (clockwise to open agaisnt anticlockwise on the standard carbs).

nothings ever simple but am getting there.

fitted a ZXR400 front end+sp1 calipers so these are going to need a fair bit of settng up aswell(the forks not the brakes).

cant wait till it's all done though,it was already a bit of missile then the last job is to get a exhaust system made for it.got a place in mind that will make one up for it but does anyone have any reccomendations in the N/W area?

cheers for the help. :peace:

Not the Foxeye doesn't have a TPS.

We need pictures :P Isn't the SP1 40mm spacing, so you can fit brembos from a 916 type Duke. My Bim has a similar (Brembo) setup but I've put a pair of billet ones on.

you can def run a foxeye cdi on the t/cat motor as my hybrid runs with one.it also means you dont get the tacho tango that tells you the tps is disconnected or needs adusting
lots of pictures please!!!!

will do (pics)

so i assume kayla is right and i wont get any dodgey readings on the tacho if i earth the TPs.If that doesn't work i'll just swap the CDi unit over (i assume they are a straight 3 plug swap,no need to swap the loom or anything like that?)

calipers are spaced to fit the forks and the headstock has used the original fzr shaft but just pressed it out of the yokes, made some bushed and pressed in into the zxr yokes, quite simple really as long as you know a good machinist.

ok just a little update on this.

After speaking to the guy that looks after my engines, and a chat with (forgot his name) a lad from Dynopro in runcorn,if you take off the TPS and find the highest V+ reading off it,then lock it off in that position that will be the best solution, and quite possibly be better than it is in it's standard form.(they used to do it with the older R1's which gave a couple extra BHP apparently),will see how i get on and keep you updated.

just need a day off work to get it fettled......
