3tj/4dx fuel tap repair

Post by Hogdigerdy Dog » Fri Dec 17, 2010 2:04 pm

moved over from the for sale/wanted section as requested

the donor tap is from a gs500 slingshot (well that,s what i,ve been told, if you know better feel free to chip in).
anyway here are the pics of what i did with it
this one shows the middle bit of the taps, the one on the right is the broken tj bit

Image

the second shows the slingshot tap in bits and the tj back together with the new bit fitted

Image

the third just shows both taps together for comparison, the slingshot tap will fit but you have to reroute the fuel pipe as the tap points strait down towards the exup servo, so i thought it better to fix the tj tap

Zombie thread!

Are the GS500 mounting holes the same distance apart? I'm looking for a way to fit a mechanical reserve to my hybrid and that would be just the ticket

what's this zombie thing

yeah their the same size,
as i said the tap fit's but as you can see from the pics the slingshot tap points strait down and the tj points horizontally inwards towards the fuel pump
so a bit of re-routing of the fuel lines is needed, not really a problem, i just wanted to keep the tj tap

EDIT @ kayla i thought so,
iv'e just been out to check and the slingshot tap doesn't have a mechanical reserve, there's 2 pipes sticking out the bottom of the tap but one seems to be a return or breather back to the tank, i don't know how it connects to the carbies as i never took it off,
although the slingshot has a much bigger in tank filter, as you can see, there's still only off & on, no reserve so it must be electrical much like the tj
