Oil Filter

Post by sparkie-fzr400 » Sat Sep 25, 2010 9:05 pm

Here,
I heard that you can do away with the seperate oil cooler on the 1WG bikes if you plant on the later filter housing which uses the current water cooling system to also cool down the oil as it does with the engine? Is this a myth or has anyone actually done this? I've had O-ring after O-ring fail on my oil cooler pipes on the filter section and looking my 3TJ they dont have that same problem.
Just wondering other than me getting spilling oil everywhere and going through O-rings what the advantages would be if this can be achieved? I've got a race oil cooler so its not that heavy, but its another thing to do over the winter.

I think you can just unbolt the plate from the back of the filter housing isn't there a big nut in the middle of it ??? You might need a new filter bolt (1wg) but even that might be reusable.

The 600 conversions don't use an oil cooler and seem ok.
