FZS FAzer wheels to fit FZR

Post by 0G0R3K-15 » Mon Aug 23, 2010 10:18 pm

Hi everyone. I wasn't here for quite a while but I got a set of wheels from Fazer 600 i guess these are the three spoke wheels. Sizes as follows:
160 R18 (rear) and 120 R17 (front) The rear wheel looks bigger than mine 140 R18 wheel but that's not the width difference it's the difference at the disk, etc fitting.

Is it any possible to fit them without major changes or does ir require a lot to do? if so what will need to be done.

From memmory the front wheel has a larger spindle diameter than a 1WG and the rear is different to the 3TJ.

To fit them to a 1WG you'll need the forks (if it's a 3EN2) or the complete front end (if it's a 3en1 or older), but it will bolt straight in.
To fit the rear you'll need the back end ... everything from the shock back .... and the arm has to be machined to fit the 1WG frame.

Have a word with Karla she fitted a TRX to a 3en1 frame they're a similar job.

The Fazer 600 (or FZR600R) rear wheel won't go in the 1WG bikes, it's too wide. If it's an FZR600 18" wheel then it might fit, but what's the point of replacing one 18" wheel with another?

0G0R3K-15, you've got a Genesis haven't you? What bike are the wheels off? The Fazer (FZS) 600 used 17" wheels, the early FZR600 used a 17" on the front and an 18" on the back and the FZ600 might have been the same.

I really have no idea which was the bike that used these wheels. None of the bikes had 17 front and 18 rear from my investigation yesterday. I really would love to fit these wheels as they are like new and tires are perferct. I am thinking bout putting the tire from the rear wheel onto my rim but first I will need to powdercoat it

It isn't a good idea to fit a 160 to a 4.5" wheel. You can go to 150 section but beyond that htere's just to much tyre, and your total circumference will feel more like a 19" or 20" wheel.

FZS Fazer wheels where black, they also fit a TRX & FZR600R, the front will the 3TJ. Personally I'd sell off those wheels and put the money into some Dunlop Alpha 10's of the correct size for your bike. Narrow tyres mean the bike will steer faster and that's no bad thing on a 400. If you had double the horse power then you might need a bigger tyre.
You should get about £100 for the pair

What I've noriced today while looking at these wheels was that the fron will fit with no problems just will need to lift it enough to take the old wheel out. The difference is at the rear where the brake disk may cause the problems. Except that it looks like these wheels will fit. When I get the car back tomorrow I will try to change these wheels without major works.

BTW I've noticed that the front tire is same as the one I got rright now. Difference is that the one I got now is in usuable condition and is 17" not 18". By the look at these wheels they look same as the ones I got now just the sizes are a bit different

If you want to know what bike the wheel came from originally, there should be a 3 digit code somewhere on one of the spokes or rim. E.g 3EN or 4XV etc. This is the Yamaha code for the bike.

Howay the macums  . Whereabouts in Sunderland do you live? I spent a year living on Tunstall Vale and 3 years on Hylton Road. Was last there in 96, keep meaning to come and see how the place has changed. Is student bashing still one of the favoured pastimes up there? ;)

I tried to change these wheels today but it doesnt work. Instead I will just swap tires and powder coat my wheels as they look the same just the colour is awful :D

If anyone interested I may have them for sale
