my hybrid has been fine lately, i'm using an fzr600 3he engine
but last night after giivng her some in first gear pull away, it seems i have a misfire, it feels like electrical
and when i checked the rectifier its red hot and the wires are red hot as well, which doesnt seem right
could this be my problem, before it ran very clean but now it still revs out ok but doesnt pull away nice and crisp
i know the stock rectifiers are a problem, what would be the problems of a dodgy rectifier
also the 3 white wires that goto the rectifier, does it matter what way round they go as they are all white no colour markings, as i have a spare 600 which doesnt have a plug, so will need to cut and resolder, just wondered if i can wire them up any way round for the white wires

Re: symptoms of dodgy rectifier
It doesn't matter which way you wire in the 3 wires from the generator

Re: symptoms of dodgy rectifier
I haven't heard about rectifiers being a problem ... it's not a honda afterall.
The rec do get hot, they soak up the extra charge from the alternator and convert it to heat .... so maybe the alternator is giving the rec a hard time.
Pulling away cleanly might be down to the carbs being out of sinc or the mixture could be off. Better still when did you change the plugs last ???

Have you got the rec mounted on a nice piece of metal to dissipate the heat? If it's in a modded bike it could just be bolted to something plastic and getting too hot.

Re: symptoms of dodgy rectifier
Normally when the rectifiers go, they just burn out. Thats what my 3he did anyway however the 3tj when the rectifier went the battery kept draining overnight (even though it charged the battery when running!)
If you unplug the rectifier it should still run but with a total loss system, should be an easy way to eliminate the rec as a porblem. As you probably know all the rectifier basically does is change the three phase ac voltage from the generator to 12v dc to charge the battery.

Re: symptoms of dodgy rectifier
Not sure about your misfire but to test the regulator/rectifier......
Test across the battery with a multi metre, if the rectifier/regulator is doing its job, you should have between 14.3 and 15.3 volts at about 3K rpm if not it may be the genny
test the battery across the terminals, a well charged battery should have 13.75 to 14.30V ish across it and tj's do like to have plenty of Amps

Re: symptoms of dodgy rectifier
Ah yes, I forgot to say if you suspect the recifier's dodgy then make sure you don't have a honda attached to it ... if you have then you need to change both defective parts
