brake caliper/rear, headache

Post by Hogdigerdy Dog » Wed Jun 23, 2010 5:51 pm

Finally got the goodridge lines sorted,
Fitted the front end, no problems, bled them in, and the brakes feel reel good, positive and hard compared to the standard setup.
Then i thought i'd sort out the rear
what a nightmare!!!
I think cos there's a bleed nipple both sides of the calliper then both pistons must move ( I've had callipers that only push on one side) so before i do something terminal to the callipers, is one side fixed, and if not, how do i remove the other piston.
what iv'e done so far,
Taken the calliper apart and try to free the piston off but nothing doing, so i connected the old brake lines and pumped up the system again, one piston moves, so i stopped that from moving with a well placed spanner and let the other take the pressure to try and move it, but it's not budging
so anyone with similar problems, and a good fix

It is a twin pot caliper so both of the pistons should move. If it is completely jammed up then you might be better refurbing the caliper.

You can buy stainles steel pistons and seal kits from Wemoto, about £35 if i remember correctly, although it is about 3 years since i did my rear caliper so the prices may have gone up.

Here is a link to a good article to point you in the right direction...

cheers oollit that was just the job,

took the calliper down my mates, who has an airline, and blew it strait out no problem, it's know wonder it was stuck the seal had perished and stuck to the piston like glue, the good news is the pistons have cleaned up nice so just a seal kit then on with the goodridge and it'll be job done

cheers
