ok im trying to get the rear shock from a 99 R6 into my fzr400 3en. the problem im having is that my old shock has a different botom connection.

what should i do? do the connections come off the botom? could i get the linkage changed and welded to fit the new one? how has anyone else got round this?

Can't see the pictures from Facebook maybe you should try Photobucket for hosting them.

If you mean the R6 being square at the bottom and the 3EN being round you can solve the problem with an angle grinder and / or a sander - it's alloy so you can shape it fairly easily. I used one of the 3en washers as a template

If it's the one I'm thinking of it won't work. You need the later ( 2008?) red one with the loop at the top and the fork at the bottom and some slightly shorter dogbones to get the ride height back.

This one-

won't work.

This one-

will.

I would like to fit a 17 inch rear wheel, would the R6 shock (red one) give the extra length to lift the ride height to compensate for the 17 inch back wheel?

nope - The R6 shock comes up about 20mm short plus the extra inch ..... nothing to giggle at there .... would make it 45mm to short.

I wouldn't recomend the conversion without doing the front and changing it to take a 120 section tyre, and if it's a road bike I'd say to keep it stock and just put the money into better suspension and tyres

Fit Dulop Alpha 10's they come in 110/70/17 and 150/60/18 they're a modern road / track day tyre and will handle more than your bike can use.

More choice will only result in more expense, you'll fit one brand and you won't be able to tell any difference from another added to the 160 profile tyre being to wide for the bike. Stick to what you have or sell the bike and buy a 3TJ - it's cheaper than changing.

A 160/60/17 on a 5x17 wheel is actually taller than an 18" tyre on the standard 3EN rim (having done a 17" wheel conversion on a 3EN :) )

Yup - but the 3TJ is a 4.5" wheel
