FZR400 Genesis Restrictor kit

Post by 0G0R3K-15 » Wed Jun 09, 2010 9:49 pm

Hi guys. i just passed my theory test today and on saturday am doing my practical test. I am a proud owner of Yamaha FZR400 Genesis 1986. I had some problems with it when i swapped it for my Gilera DNA 50 in january. Just replaced the spark plugs for Bosh and now works perfect with just over a 20k kilometers on clock.

Now I need a restrictor kit for it as I wont be able to insure it when my insurer ask for that. I tried on ebay but found only kits for R6 etc.
If anyone got a spare restrictor kit I would appreciate it and if u could sell it to me :)
Also if anyone here is from Sunderland tyne and wear you may come and visit me and give a little help with polishing frame and making a streetfighter of it :)

Thanks for your help

Welcome to the forum :)

Put a topic in the Parts for sale / wanted as well, rules is rules after all.

Polishing the frame will be a pain in the ass and keeping it that way is a pain in the ass too ;)

Yes I know polishing will take ages but as there is some rust here and there all over the engine parts and some suspension I will be expecting to strip bike down and then do it all. If I had money to do tha i would put a chrome on it but as you would expect thay my hurt my wallet a lot

That's how the bike looks now.

During the last weekend I decided to put an alarm on and i end up with this. I found a big leak from the petrol tank and had to fix that straight away. Now when I got the tank fixed I can start with other things. Would love to put a streetfiighter front but i expect that part to be expensive.

I think you were right to put new plugs in it !!!
I'll guess you've changed the oil etc

I'd look at simply cleaning the engine as much as possible before you drop it out - if you use paraffin and a small paint brush you'll be able to get most of it off. Then paint the engine.
Get rust killer on the pipes if they rot through it gets expensive.
Fightering it isn't great. Is a 400 and revs high, the engine isn't the best looking and you'll be sitting more upright on something you want to leaning forward on. I've seen a few people start doing this and they usually get abandoned half way through then sold for parts.
If you want a fighter your better off starting with something more suitable ... a fazer 600 etc

I'd love to get a 600 but that will be Honda CBR or Suzuki GSXR. Now am stuck to 400 becasue low on cash. That's why I want to get the bike done and put it to as good condition as I can. I got a few days off now so may be able to get downpieps off and clean them from rust. Today afternoon I will also completly clean fueal tank and get it fixed. My FZR got a nice sound coz of a racing exhaust fited so that's done. I got a left can from Hayabusa 1300 and was thinking to put that on but problem is that this is quite fat can and very heavy which may make it unstable at higher speeds and cornering. I had a chance to buy a set of wheels with new pirelli tires at rear 160/xx/18 and front 120/xx/17. i could have em for 100quid. My fault as they were good looking and cheap. BTW did anyone tried to use FZR or VFR 400 for stunts? It's quite heavy though and am not sue if it's able to do some stunts. They all got power and stuff but am concerned bout this.

How old are you, out of curiosity?

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound patronising or anything but it sounds like this is your first bike. If it is, and I know it's your bike, your money and your time, but I wouldn't waste any more than the bare minimum to get it rideable.

This is my first big bike and I want to keep it for longer. previously I had:
Baotian 50cc 2009 moped (chinese crap)
Gilera Runner 70cc 1999 (quick beast, sadly stolen a year ago)
Gilera DNA 50cc 2001 (swapped for Yamaha but was very unerliable)

I also have in my home country (Poland) A quad bike 50cc not one of these rev & go but with 4 gears and racing parts to have fun i forests. I also got a MZ ETZ 250 1989. Check it out as some of you may see it for the first time. It is registered as an old bike and is kept in 100% original condition. Only using it on perfect weather and for short trips.

Btw I am 17 well almost 18.

Regarding the FZR I would love to finish it. Today I will finish up with the petrol tank and fill it up for we hours to check if it holds petrol in it rather than spitting it all round the bike.

Cześć.

I only learnt that one word from a Gdansk girl.
Right, so, nearly 18 ... well.
Here's the thing - much as we all like the FZR400 Genesis they are getting to be an old bike and (sadly) near the end of their useful life before needing a good restoration. What I'd suggest you do is get this bike reliable and ridable, then keep it until your restriction comes off. It's never going to be a stunt bike even if you did a lot to it, it simply won't take that kind of useage. Don't bother with the Busa sillencer, you'll have to change the carb settings and all it will do is drink fuel and run badly. Same with the tyres and wheels, it will just make it handle badly. Leave the passenger footrests on too ... that way you can at least give a girl a ride ;)

You could look at the brakes though, i assume it has braided steel hoses ??? You can use some Blue Spot Yamaha calipers from the R6 - they should bolt straight on.

So far brakes are very good when i checked over them. I wasnt thinking of making this one a stunt bike mainly because of it's weight. It is over 200kg which is quite a lot for a stunter. For this sort of things I will buy a CBR600 in bout 3yrs. I really like the sound of FZR and the way it handles now and everything. Before I found this one I was looking at VFR400 in mint condition.

Sadly I had no money to buy it. It was priced at 1000 which still wasnt much after all that guy has spent on it. I've even seen all the receipts for a total price of over 2000.

I coped with petrol tank and now it seems to be OK. next step will be to get some nice windshield along with the fairing at the front and fit it, cos as you can see it is broken on the left of motorcycle.

No no no no no! I have a Genesis and found the spacing for the front fork lugs was 83mm not the required 100mm. The bike as standard comes with non braided brake lines and calipers that I found were prone to rusting and seizing. After some work I made brake adaptor plates and fitted some R6 blue dot ones.

I do have a restrictor kit for the Genesis btw, or if you're tight on cash I can take pictures of them and supply you with the dimensions required to make them ;) .
