Its a genesis framed exup i believe.
Frame number is below 080000 but all the parts look like a 3en. The forks are genesis ones too. I got two bikes and the one in boxes is a 3en.
The exhaust is welded up where the exup valve would be it seems. Im a newbee too fzr's and its my first one after having cbrs and vfrs.

Got the carbs balanced today by a decent local mechanic and number 1 was way out compared to the others. Seems to have cured it, just been making some foam to sit under the tank and hold the air box on as it seems to like coming off.

Oh i also checked the coils, plugs and HT leads and all check out ok.

So looks like it was a combination of a loose airbox and totally unbalanced carbs.

Thanks for all your advice

Sound job there; pics are always welcome.

I advise new rubbers when you have a bit spare cash; the old ones will not keep sealed once they have distorted badly.

There is a few threads with price and supplier; the silicone tube does work and will be a better fix than trying to utilize foam under the tank cover.

You may identify the carbs somewhat;
The early Genesis have metal top caps, as do the 2TK which are more oval on the airbox inlet side.
2tk carbs have only a opening cable; no return.
I have no experience of 3EN1 carbs but would suggest they are identical to 3EN2 with plastic caps.

The head to carb inlets may aid in identifying the engine itself; bloody 1WG on all engines is of no use at all ! :(

Genesis engines were originally painted black; I consider the 2TK to be silver with polished/unpainted ally outer casings.
(mine was anyhow....the clutch casing had never been removed in order to polish it.)

The 3EN2 has a bare ally engine with silver painted case covers. 3EN1 is ?????
Casings are not definitive; smashed and repaired/replaced accounts for that.

It may always be a bit reluctant at low revs if an exup + exup carbs were intended on the engine and now ran sans.the valve.
So many engine/head /carb swaps have been done over the years ;it will be hard to tell what is what.

Edited; the 2tk engine is unpainted alloy.

Unsure if they can truly be classed as smoothbore, mind.
They are however round slide oval venturi.
Externally very few differences with the Genesis carb.
You would have to strip and do a side by side comparison.

it looks like from what you've said that they are 2TK's.

Mine do not have a return cable. My engine is black but has been painted black by someone as a lot of it has started to come off.

The spare engine is silver though but no carbs or inlets to identify.

So many subtle differences its a bit confusing!

The 2TK carbs have no fixing for the return cable; it may be the cable is just missing on yours ?
The black may be factory; it does degrade after a time.
Have a look at the TCI unit next time you have the seat off.( not conclusive of engine but would give an edge on what harness )

Edit for addition; Forgot the 2tk engine has an oil cooler fitted; but I believe it can be removed by swapping out a spacer block on the oil filter housing;

Also believe the engine to be unpainted.

There is no return cable housing as far as i can remember but its been a few days since ive looked at the carbs to even remember!

I think best thing I could do is when I'm at work tomorrow, I will take some photos of the engine, carbs, cdi etc.. and hopefully should be able to shed some light on it.

Looks like cadwell is going to be rained off tomorrow night too, which is annoying as i spent all this week stressing and rushing around trying to get it set up argh :o
