i have just completed this on my 3EN2 with the 600 3HE, there was no oil cooler on the engine i bought, but my own fzr600 3he had the cooler, so i guess you can remove it, when you remove the filter there is a large nut, undo it and the cooler should come away, not sure if you may need a spacer for the oil cooler though, maybe someone else can confirm this

You can remove the oil cooler but you will need the standard plate which fits in the place of the cooler for your oil filter to srcew up to.

got it sorted cheers, on my 3he engine i just removed the filter, then removed the big nut behind the filter, pulled off the oil pipe housing and refitted the original filter , seems to run fine without it
