Help with Gearing FZR400RRSP Race Bike 80+BHP
At the moment has 14t Front 47t Rear. I think this is way off the mark but I cannot remember what standard is and then go from there. This is my second FZR400RRSP but went to the dark side and bought a RLR Tuned RVF which I have sold to get back with the FZR.
She is making 80+ at rear wheel. Dont know how to upload photos someone let me know and I'll post.
Cheers

Take a look here to upload photos, it's actually quite easy viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7902" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; As for gearing goes, can't help you there, maybe it's in the manual. Check the FZR - general section to download one.
Cheers.

Hi, I have an 80hp+ FZR, a good starting point would be 15 43 or 44 on a 520 chain for most tracks depending how quick you are?

Just to let you know had a quick run around the club circuit before the meeting was cancelled due to oil all around the track. I went with 15t front 46t rear. I think that was just about right but probably drop 2-3t off the rear for the gp circuit.
Andreas Racing Association - Jurby - Isle of Man
Maybe a good idea for people to put a rough guide for different circuits for the FZR's it would come in really handy.
Cheers

Re: Help with Gearing FZR400RRSP Race Bike 80+BHP
Wondering if any of you might be able to help out.
Because i live in the Isle of Man there is no way I can test the bike except during the racing. (Track days havnt been running this year)
I am having real issues with the gearing. I found I wasnt using top ger on the club circuit so I droped the gearing to 14t 46t and still wasnt hitting top gear. My times were slower also. Its a real short track 1.2miles and only one straight which isnt too long.
I was thinking of going back to standard gearing 15t 43t and going from there for the next race meeting but due to my licence upgrade I dont have too much time to play around.
Also going to East Fortune 10/11th July and if any one has a clue on the gearing?

I did post a link to a really useful site somewhere, but i cant remember so here it is again
www.gearingcommander.com
You'll have to subscribe if you want to use it standalone. It will be tricky to compare as your engine is in a high state of tune but at least it will give you a good idea of which direction to go in.
The guys running 400/600 hybrids (and i'll be one of them soon) seem to go for 14/46 or 47 if thats of any use (a standard 600 engine sin't putting out much more bhp at the wheel than yours).
Best of luck

Cheers for the reply. I think i'll stick with 14t 46t for east fortune. I'll let you know what its like. And then the week after is Jurby Road Race so going for top end as there is two almighty straights, so probably run 16t 41t.

14 46 is more suited to the rr gearbox, i use it round mallory and it does just about get into top on the straight (but thats with me riding
) the sp's round there use lower rear teeth for def if that helps any!

14/46 for me when i raced them with rr gear box in 80 hp, just put a rr box in ,i found it better of the line than the tall first gear in the sp and a lot kinder on the clutch too
just so happens there is a rr box in the for sale section, well what der you know,

Went with 14t 46 t at east fortune or so i thought. Didnt get in to top and changed the rear to a 47 and still no joy. Seems the lad who did the sprockets for the last meeting forgot to change the front! so was running 14t front 46t rear. Oh well dont let anyone else do your gears.
Am going to do Jurby Road this weekend and am going with 16t front and 41t rear should be a real top speed down the 1.5mile straight.
I'LL LET YOU KNOW HOW i GET ON.
