fzr400 1989 r6 fairing will it fit?

Post by fzlintstone » Fri Jan 08, 2016 1:45 pm

hi everyone just joined so sorry if this has been posted elsewhere.

I am looking at changing the fairing and seat unti to possibly a early r6 1998-2000 race fairing. can this be done or are they too different in shape and size etc.

reason being the fzr headlight fairing is too upright for me, i prefer the r6 look.

any thoughts or suggestions of what may fit gladly appreciated.

thanks

This is your first post so I'm trying to fire from the hip but .... The two bikes are just fundamentally different. The R6 has a stacked gearbox so the engine is shorter front to back, which means the swingarm is longer. Sooo the fairing will be shorter and the tail longer and wider. So yes you can put it on ... but it will look crap and for the money you'll spend doing it, you might as well buy an R6

Boris

Using an early R6 Tail Cowl and Modified Rear Sub aswell

You can pull the Tail in so that it does not overhang like alot of Cowboy Jobs

Goes well with a Thundercat Tank

It looks like an Early R1 Nose Cone will line up perfectly with the Lowers on a 3en1

Up to you then innit but it still looks shite, like a sheep in wolf's clothing. An early R6 is ... £1750 so it's roughly £1000 more than a 3en. You'll spend 300 on bodywork and bit more paint so you're 400/ 500 quid away.
Seems stooopid to me

You forget a FZR400 will out handle an R6

Drop a 600 in and it's not that much of a Sheep

A 3en1 seat is one of the most uncomfortable seats to be on for any distance

It also depends on how much you paid for your Bike in the first place

Aswell a being smart when you buy your bits

And as for Prices...How much was your Yoke? ........lol

Seriously though a 3en is ugly compared to a 3tj

So whats wrong with giving it a face lift?

I like the 3EN1 it's styled after the first OW01 and yeah they do have a hard saddle bit like the old FZ600 I had back in the day ... Most I ever did was 700 miles in a day on that, never hurt after that.
Don't think a 4/6 project will be as quick as a R6 just different

If you are comparing a true 1989 400 against an R6.....a 3EN2 will not out handle an R6 of any era.

I,m with Boris r.e R6 fairings ( actually I awaited his very answer last week ) but sometimes "needs must" and 3EN series panels and bodywork is now no longer cheap or readily available and not all have the skills/infrastructure to repair.

Would it not be easier to try an graft on a 3tj fairing? Only thing I'd be worried about is the clip-ons, You'll have to straighten them out abit to lower them (3en ) I think which I'd try to see what it feels like before you crack on.
What sort of fzr have you got?

3TJ is shorter to the headstock though and as you say the 3en1 and earlier have clip-ons above the top yoke, even though the yoke is cranked so is the 3TJ

Personally I can't stand when folk put later bodywork on an older bike, it always looks crap as its not designed for it, plus you will alway be explaining why you are wobbling round corners when an R6 handles so well....'Its just got the fairings of a bigger bike mate...'

If you want to change it, fit a face fairing and seat or better still, spend the money on improving the brakes and suspension so you can keep up with an R6 in the corners, nowt better than going round the outside of a newer and faster bike imho....
