My project (updated)
Just some more pics of my bike now with the engine tidied, painted & fitted.
Sorry if its in the wrong forum
Exhaust headers were in good nick so just a light blasting and a tin of high temp paint.
Starting to re fit wiring loom (wish I took more photos of routing !!!)
Would like opinions on a paint job. Was thinking of keeping the original decal pattern, but
Changing white to yellow, red to black and the blue stripe to white, just to keep it looking like
it was from the late 80s era

Some nice attention to detail .
Here is a paint template to play about with colour schemes.

Judging by your skills shown already with design; I reckon what you have already planned will look ace.

Yes.
put two mists and one coat of lacquer on then your decals. mist coat the decals a couple of times then coat as normal.
I didn't use a 2K lacquer on that, it's rattle cans, if I did it again I'd definitely use 2K

Re: My project (updated)
How many cans did you go through for the whole bike, and what size tin. A friend of mine can paint the bike for me as he has a compressor, but I'd like to say "I painted it myself"
Did a CBR600 in rattle cans in Castrol Superbike colours in the 90s which was just Hycote gloss white with a bit of green & red. This was the days before the internet, reading MCN small ads for a stencil set and decals !!!!
Was pretty chuffed with the results though

Re: My project (updated)
Can't remember but the posh paint was about £200 from RS Racepaint. It's pearl so you need a base and top then lacquer so you use more cans than a straight top coat.
It's all the other bits and pieces that start to make the costs go up though, undercoat and masking tape ... rubbing down and positioning the decals is just time.
I'd move the main stripe on the fairing down so it uses the weld line of the frame. The tank is standard colours.
