RR SP Geometry

Does anyone have good starting point numbers for setting up the RR SP? Shock overall length, fork height, swingarm angle, etc?

The shock should be 340mm long, dogbone length is 165mm (which will decide the swingarm angle) the fork stanchion tops (not the actual caps) are usually flush with the yoke on the RR models if that's any use at all.

I run my sp forks 10mm through the top yoke (to top of chrome not cap) and raise the rear 12mm on shock length, always worked good for me on the track but have the same setup on the road. :grin:

12mm additional overall ride height in back, or 12mm additional shock length?

Ok, next fun question, spring rates. Bike is stripped (330lbs sans gas), 145lb rider, rear spring suggestions?

Also, did Ohlins ever make a shock for this, if so does anyone got a part number?

Ohlins shocks are built out of standard parts. There isn't a specific shock that I know of and its quite a long shock but with the right numbers they can make one up

Ohlins has PNs for common fitments, if you've got their books you can use that to find out what they're starting with for a shim stack, etc. My local suspension guy was asking as it would help him determine where to go on my machine as the US books have nothing for this bike. That said, we were able to get it right between some nuggets of info I found here along with some trial and error. Should be interesting when I get back on track in June, I won't be trying to road race a hard tail next time around, meaning I'll be out of excuses for why I'm slow. :D
