don't clean up too bad

Post by Hogdigerdy Dog » Wed Mar 06, 2013 5:35 pm

:o
gave the tj it's annual mot clean-up and service
went strait through no advisory notes, which is always nice,
new front tyre, all fluids changed and oil filter (did the bearings, all but the headstock, pads and plugs last year) and a major clean, been using the bike all winter and it showed, also finally got round to polishing the faded purple (pink) anodizing off the can

Scrubs up nice
You need a "Yamaha" badge on the front of the top fairing

it certainly does ;)
not sure if you can see from the pics, but the white is discoloured where the original used to be,
it's on the list with a new badge for the scorpion can ;)

She looks well mate, do you use anything before winter to get the filth off later?

plenty of elbow grease ;)

but what really made the difference was the coat of turtle wax it had last summer, once i cleaned all the sh*t off, i was surprised how good it came up, then showed it a bit of T-cut and another dose of wax on wax off and she's shiny again

yeah, i wasn't too sure when i first got it, i always thought the yellow looked a bit hondaesque, especially the tail :o but it's grown on me

there are a couple of scrapes and scratches, air intakes, and rims are worst, the rear break linkage and gear lever + linkage that rusts at the slightest sign of damp, (even after the scotchbright and wd40 treatment) might get a coat of something black soon as they always look sh*t, apart from that for 24yrs old this year it's not bad

i keep threatening to paint it in the black scheme (boris says there faster ;) ) but money and inclination atm don't allow, i'd probably want it red white and yellow again :(

They all get scratched on the intakes - its where they hit if the bikes dropped
Take the controls off and use paint stripper on them. Wire brush and clean them in petrol. Use a rust killer and then spray them with 5 wheels silver. Let them dry and them put them in a warm oven for a couple of mins. Or send to powder coat with the wheels ;)
