3tj parts availability

Post by ibby4585 » Mon Jan 07, 2013 11:31 am

Hi.

Before I hassle Fowlers with about 20 different part numbers for parts for my 3tj7, I just wondered if any of you have ordered the same parts and had any luck?

Parts needed.

1. Ignition key housing
2. Mirrors preferably black but white will do.
3. Infill panels in black
4. Indicators
5. Original blank key

And a few other odd and sods

Cheers
Kris

Key housing ???
You might be better off taking it a locksmith, Yamaha are only going to sell you a complete switch ... not sure about the keys either. if you have a worn key then maybe retire it and get a new (non Yam) key cut, or may two to be safe.

Mirrors should be white for your bike, you can get pattern ones in black though. Or keep your eyes open on the bay they should be like this

The braket where the mirror bolts in should be flat.

I think the infils should be white .... they could be hard to find new

Indicators .... they where huuuuuuuuuge, pattern ones are available (you want long stem fronts and short for the rear) I reckon Yamaha will stock them

The key mechanism is fine but the silver metal circle where the key pushes into is damaged giving the appearance that somebody has shoved a screwdriver in it. And the outer where it should say 'lock' 'on' etc is tatty and rubbed off.

Interesting you say the mirrors and infill a should be white, as I think they should be too. But the actual sales brochure shows both in black.

Tidy up the escutcheon plate on the ignition using a ground down slotted screwdriver as a dolly/lever and try to reshape ;use a ring spanner to smooth out .
Ignition decals can be obtained here;

and will tidy lock up considerably.

This was a right mess initially but tidied to an acceptable condition.
I think these indicators are the type you want (all this type same size but different stem length)=they are indeed oversize for a 400.

IGNORE LAST PART= indicators completely incorrect for model.

Gosh and golly - you're right.
It's the same in the model range from Yamaha too. Moreover the mirrors they show are the earlier style - maybe it was a prototype ?

Yeah the mirrors look like 3ma mirrors.

The metal escutcheon keeps falling out and won't secure.

I will try and get it looking reasonable and see if I can secure it.

Boris.

The parcel was picked up this morning so should be with you on weds.

These are the style of rear indicators I have which look the same as the ones in the yamaha brochure.

Yes - but the indicators look a bit rubbish. I reckon you should be able to get them through Yamaha maybe on an extended delivery time though.

Yamaha had no probs getting mirrors and indicators when I asked for them. The white mirrors were £28.50. The indicators were virtually the same cost. Mirrors are the same as the 3LN FZR250.

The indicators are all the same and all have the same part number - but then they all came with brown and black wires! No greens.

Odd parts do come up on ebay uk. I managed to get a new front fairing subrame reduced from 164 to 30! And just got the tank front/mirror mount for that aswell - reduced from 85. Got one 0.50 oversize piston for a fiver aswell lol  These were from Fowlers on ebay - username numberworth, I keep him listed as a favourite seller.
