1wg brakes

Post by stephen918 » Sun Oct 07, 2012 7:49 pm

rebuilding a fzr400 1wg genesis and having a problem with the brakes , its got the 2 piston calipers which i presume is correct but when i try to mount them on the forks with the wheel in place and pistons pushed back they dont seem to fit behind the mounting points on the forks , is there any other front wheel that fits but whos hub centre is wider :?:

Pics would help! Have you had the bike on the road before?? Have you got the right discs on the bike??? 1WG discs are not offset if I remember rightly??

Have you got the forks in the right sides? They each fit both sides but the caliper mounts are offset.
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

not had the bike on the road and bought as project so its a bit of an unknown , the forks have no oil in them so chances are that they have been off so the forks on the wrong sides sounds like the one so will probably give that a go first , cheers for the help fellas

The front spindle goes in from the throttle side.

Yes it sounds like a Genesis model - twin headlights and no air intakes
Are the calipers on the correct fork leg, try swapping them over.
The bolt spacing should be 83-85 mm on those. If they're 100mm then they might have been swapped for FZR600 legs.

You have got offset discs on non -offset forklegs or vice versa .
Seen loads of discs up for sale lately as owners bought correct dia disc but wrong offset ,your P.O probably did same !!!
