660 engine
Hi guys I'm just assembling a couple of 660cc motors for hybrids, basically a 3he crank with fazer rods but the rest thundercat or fzr600r. I'm building one for me and one spare, all with every gasket/seal replaced. Should make lots more torque (48 lb/ft at a guess) my 727 has 51lb/ft and over 40 from 3.7k and a bit more power.
Sadly the full gasket/seal kit prices aren't cheap (£120 is cheapest I can find) so will be looking for around £450.
If anyone is interested let me know.

Re: 660 engine
steve do you need a 4jh motor, ive got one with 2nd gear gone (it was my 1st hybrid engine) you can have it if you want it.ive taken the clutch pack(plates only) and id like to keep the starter motor.it was a good runner til it pooped 2nd gear on a track day,i never tore it down just took it out and pput a t/cat motor in it.dont know if you remember me from when you used to race thunderbikes i used to come and watch phil smith and simon baggott when they raced the fz750s,i think i brought a top yoke to brands for you after you bent yours.anyway if you want it you can have it.

Wait, 727?! What unholy combination of parts would allow me to shove a 727 in my 3TJ?!

Re: 660 engine
727 = a later 4JH engine with the earlier 3HE crank and bigger pistons.
The biiger pistons give +60cc
The longer stroke 3HE also adds 10%

Re: 660 engine
Hey Cagiva, I remember you. You saved my bacon bringing me a top yoke if I remember correctly and didn't I swap you some rearsets for a bdk airbox? Do you want a gearbox, I have 2 spare I'll be happy to post you one?
Boris you're right about the generator end of the crank. The Tcat has a larger journal where the crank seal sits compared to 3he or 400. So just need to get the correct size rotary shaft seal this way around (machine crank if putting Tcat crank in 400 cases), the 3he crank drops straight in 400 cases btw. I think the flywheel is the same on 400 and 3he too but I wouldn't rev a 660 to 14500 like I do with the Tcat built in 400 cases.
Regarding the 727 folks, don't bother it isn't worth the hassle, a 660 is easy to do and will only be about 4 horse's down and be a lot more reliable/easy to start. My 727 is an utter pig to start and every time it runs all I think is when will it go boom.
So I will be selling one of the 660's in a couple of weeks when it's finished as I have a large surplus of engines atm. No spacer plates in these engines either since using fazer rods negates the need for one or having rods bored out, so bolts straight on the same spacer plates a lot of you have been using.

Re: 660 engine
So, the Fazer has a longer stroke than the 600R + T'cat ???
Would it be "easier" to use the Fazer bottom end with 600R / T'cat top end ?
I'm asking because I went to college doing a bike mechanic's course. I've got a 600R engine with head and barrels off at college so it would be a good time to do anything complex to the engine. Using a Fazer bottom end would mean the cases / crank / shells would be matched.

Re: 660 engine
Actually Boris the Fazer is a shorter engine. It uses the same pistons/crank as the Tcat but shorter rods to give a slightly shorter engine. They are however conveniently the same size as the old 3he ones but with a 17mm little end rather than 16 so the Tcat pistons slot right on. Makes life a lot easier and no need for adjustable cams to time in the engine.
