How are your £en2's going ?

Oops made a mistake with the shift key,or there again perhaps not !
Haha

They're going ok ta. Actually, that's a complete fib, they're just languishing in the workshop at the minute. We've got a 3HE in to poke with sticks as well, although the XJ550 cafe doofer is progressing jolly well. It transpires that a 3EN2 fairing can be persuaded onto a 3HE, and 3HE (same as 3EN1?) headlights fit in a 3EN2 fairing and look loads better than the flush/slanted 3EN2 lights- woo!

You should have a trundle down when it stops snowing!

Know what you mean about Yamaha twin headlight interchangeability ;its mint.!
I dont bother buying a new bulb-bid on a set of 3HE lamps-it's cheaper.

Hey guys thanks for the help...

as an update. I have the brakes off the bike. am waiting for payday to order parts. have already settled on braided lines and new pads.
pulled off the dust seal on the master cylinder and there was no liquid behind it, would this indicate the seals are ok? or is it not that straight forward.
What other brake parts do you suggest replacing/refurbing whilst they are off the bike?

Thanks for all of your help.

Tere are 2 seals a front and a back - the back is ok otherwise there would be fluid behind the dust seal. You can't really cheack the front without taking them out.

You probably need a 3 hose kit - if you fit the 2 hose then the longer banjo it can hit the rev counter at full lock and fail an MOT. You can get around that with a different master cylinder, one from a FZS 600 for example, which has the outlet parrallel to the bar

Is there a specific year fzs 600 master cylinder I am looking for... The ones on the bay seem to be for th 98-03 models but the outlet is perpendicular to the bars.

Ahhh - yes ... well done you've passed !!!

Sorry about that, I was thinking to find you something a bit more bolt on and the FZS has a built n reservior. The parallel outlet type has a remote res so you'd need to find a bracket to secure it but if that was doable then there's
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-FZR600 ... 35c59acdad
Comes with some braided hoses too, which should fit but but check they have enough slack that the forks can fully extend and not tug them. You'll need some new copper washers each side of the hose fittings so 2 each caliper and 3 at the top for the 2 lines in the advert.
If you buy new lines then you'll get washers and banjo bolts in the kit.

Ah brilliant. Thanks, I've bought that setup... Getting a bracket won't be too much of an issue, worst comes to the worst I'll fabricate something. Suppose I'll just make my calipers look as pretty as I can while I wait for the parts to arrive.

Ok so the parts arrived and a day has come that i can get to the bikes and work on them.

First call for the day was to hear the bike running. as although it ran when i collected it it has not run whilst it has been in my possession. Ran the battery flat in the process so out with the jumper cables off the car and  She Lives.

now the happiness was short lived as she refused to idle and cut out if i twisted the throttle.... figured id check how the airbox was seated and it was loose... tried to tighten it up and seat the seals but its still not great. started her up again and she idled a little better. still cuts out if i go to twist the throttle too abruptly when she is idling.

so next question... would the airbox-carb seals cause this issue or would it be something else. if it is the seals, do fowlers in bristol still stock them as i have been reading the forum and remember reading one post that claims they may not.

Further more took her round the green outside the garages for a little ride to see how she felt. now the gear change was REALLY heavy. am going to lubricate the mechanism and  that it gets better.

Next onto making a bracket for the new master cylinder and finishing the front brakes to my liking.

Thanks again everyone hopefully i can ride her soon.

The best way is to try Fowlers and see what they say - usually it's the 3EN model that people ask about and I'm not sure if the rubbers are the same. getting the airbox to seal can be a bit of a pain because the rubbers go hard and make it difficult to get the airbox on. You can heat them up with a hairdryer and there was something in a magazine about an oil treatment to soften them, bur new rubbers are easier. Just to see if it's an airleak and running lean you can tickle the choke to see if it improves it.
If the airbox is on there and it still cuts out then it could just be a setup thing. The carbs probably need balancing and then you can set the idle.
