80s Yamahas don't tend to have split pins.
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Re: anyone have a 3en2?
I got a prohibition notice today for no split pin, im taking it to court cos i think the cop was totally unreasonable, so far i have a 60 pound fine and 3 points to go on my licence, 6 mot's and a previous prohibition notice 6 weeks ago and no one pointed it out, not even the cops 6 weeks ago
...Im fuming!
I'm going straight down the mot test ctr in the morning to get his take on it

First thing - count to 10 and don't fume over it. If you're angry you'll make a mistake and could get costly.
Ask for a written statement from your last mot station - it might cost you a tenner.
Give Fowlers in Bristol a ring (have your Vin number ready) explain the situation and again ask for a letter to confirm the part is a lock nut, maybe buy the part and keep it in it's bag with the Yamaha label and part number on that way it cross references with the parts book and Fowlers letter.
Keep your receipts for your expenses and claim them back.
