Sorry Kayla, but I've owned three FZ400s, one steel frame and one alu. The earliest ones had a steel frame like the 1984 model in your picture. The early 1986 models had the Deltabox frame - this was the change over year when the FZ was discontinued. The one I linked to has the FZ400 air cooled engine and is a 1985 model. The FZR400 didn't appear until May 1986 and had a water cooled engine.

I know my Yamahas hun :peace:
Cool! Does that mean that there's a super-rare FZR400R that only had a one year run?

FZ400/600 = steel square section frame and air cooled XJ engines.
FZR400/600 = deltabox ali./steel frame and LC engines.

Seeing all the incorrectly described bikes on fleabay, never mind 3EN1s with 3EN2 bits, etc., I wouldn't be surprised if some of the 400s were incorrectly registered.

Mine is an FZ400R designated 46X, first registered in Japan in 1985, and has the steel perimeter frame with water-cooled engine and magnesium cambox cover. The bike is totally original apart from consumeables i.e. tyres and other service items.

Thanks CRM. You're quite right. The light comes on when the speedo reaches 80km. Geoff.
