nc30 speedo options...
i am in need for a new speedo on my money pit of an nc30 restoration, i have seen you can buy digital speedos but has anyone ever converted if at all possible a speedo off say a fireblade or something like that? obviously i would have to get the connectors that plug in from the loom of which ever speedo i would try but has this ever been done im sure i have seen a sp1 speedo on a nc30 once but i could be going mad.
i have done a quick search but just wondered if anyone has any info...

A user named Riley has put a CBR 600 dash on his NC, but from what he was telling me it can be a ballache to get working properly and can end up costing nearly as much as the new digi dashes.

Re: nc30 speedo options...
James is right, I do have a cbr600rr dash on my nc30 and although it is lovely I am still having to iron out some issues with it, whereas a friend of mine has a koso dash which in the long run has been cheaper and easier to set up.
Need any used Nc30 parts? Want to fit a Ducati front end to your Nc30? If so give me a shout.

Re: nc30 speedo options...
what has been the biggest issue? i am assuming getting the change over from a speedo cable to electronic type? i am just looking at different ideas and things to make her a bit different to every other, though i love the original look i want to have something special to me but not look 'drive through halfords' in the process!

Re: nc30 speedo options...
I'm in the process of trying different speedo drives from later Hondas as they have mechanical to electronic convertors as standard. I also need to source a module to double the signal from the coil so as that it doesn't read half revs. But progress is slow because quite frankly I spent so long building the bike I just want to enjoy it at the moment. The dash is the only part of bike with any niggles now but at the moment I'm just riding around them as it were. I know what you mean about wanting it to be special without being crap or thrown together. I've seen the progress on your bike and its looking good all you need now is a ducati front end!

Re: nc30 speedo options...
i was only thinking as the speedo on my '30 is broke, the rev counter work along with the temperature gauge but the speedo is a no go, i am assuming if i dont go for a digital idea then as it has a cable system i could buy pretty much any cable operated speedo and just connect it up.
glad you like the progress on the bike, i have a day off tomorrow and have already told the wife i am in the garage!

i have managed to get the rear indicators roughly mounted tonight, i have purchased a number plate light from a old clio to use for the bike which should work well. I did look at a ducati front end as a thought, but decided to go with the cbr look as i have found a lady in malvern who strips bikes for race purposes so i have access to lots of parts at decent prices! brand new top fairing & headlight cost me £150, i couldnt get it that cheap on ebay!

Re: nc30 speedo options...
i've had the same issue. i was looking at fitting a gsxr speedo as they seem cheaper. i found a cheap koso dash and have gone for that. what i would say is that after market speedos may have issues with the 18" rear wheel as you won't be able to readjust the speed without a speedo healer (or a diy kit from a company called velleman). I went the easy option (relatively!!) with the koso. be aware you'll need to run a permanent live to the closks to make almost any of these dashs work.
just as an extra i didn't like the stock speedo pickups that the digital dashs come with. Too big and look like a bodge when fitted. I got a replacement from a manufacturer called cherry (i got a sample for free from them just by asking!). the part number i've used is an MP101401 and it works perfectly (not tested on the road yet). Its mounted on the rear caliper bracket with the magnets in the hex head rear brake disc bolts (you need to turn them round to do this). Looks really smart and almost OEM. If you want more info feel free to PM me.

thanks for the info, i will keep it in mind for when i get to that stage, next today body work to try and get as much of that done as possible, i am hoping the fixings for my blades mirrors are the same as my '30 so i can use them again as a guide for the build. will try and up load more pictures this evening.

Re: nc30 speedo options...
I saw a Tyga Kitted NC30 one sunday in Abergavenny Bus Station and the bike had an RC30 Speedometer on it as I seem to remember. It was quite funny, I was walking round it admiring it, and when I looked at the speedometer to see the mileage I simply said... 'Oh, thats a bit optimistic isnt it!' LOL (It went up to 190mph. Ha Ha.
Looks wise, It wasnt far off a standard Speedometer the only noticeable difference I saw was the extra measurements on it.

Re: nc30 speedo options...
Not sure it would be off a RC30, mine only goes upto 150 on the speedo
