This may seem like a bit of an odd question, but...
Can anyone tell me whether or not you check the oil level with the dipstick fully screwed in or just sitting on the rim?
Apparently it's different on some bikes

sitting in the rim will do just fine on the NC30 son

I could be mistaken, but I think it's the same for all bikes with dipsticks: make sure there is at least some oil in the engine, then warm it up, switch off, pull out & clean dipstick, sit on the bike, wait for a minute or two, then insert deepstick back on without screwing it in, check level.
