Post by shaun1988 » Fri Apr 10, 2009 11:09 pm

Hi guys, just noticed my bike has a mph speedo, the milage is in kph but the speed is mph, does this mean my bike will not be restricted to the 110mph? or will it still have this restriction?
and if it is restricted how do i ge rid of this restricter?
Cheers

Or perhaps they have fitted a 'kmh' to 'mph' convertor in line with the speedo cable ?? it will look like a cylindrical alluminium . . . 'thing' . . . (actually a planetary reduction gearbox) about 25x25 (mm of course :-P) where your speedo cable screws onto the back of the speedo . . .

now, remember the bike is actually restricted to about 180 KMH by the clock . . . so, after fitting a 'convertor' your clock will now be reading in mph and the bike is now infact restricted to 180 MPH . . . WOOT :-)

you can brag to your mates who havn't got a clue that "Na, its not really that fast to be honest . . . i mean . . . its still only restricted to 180mph like . . . quick for a 400 though . .. " he he

if the converter was fitted the odometer would go up in miles instead of kilometres.

also,if someone had fitted the converter then there would be no need really to fit a mph dial face as the kph would then indicate mph.

this is only relevant if the odometer is going up in kilometres.

Is the oddo really going up in killometers ?? or is it just labeled so ??

If the if the speed is actually 'labeled' in mph and the oddometer in k's (as opposed everything labeled as km's and shaun using his judgement to work out for himself that the indicated speed must be mph) then of course your your diagnosis is most likely correct . . .

on a side note, now were on the subject . . . my local honda man tried to sell me a convertor for £30.00 which i thought was a bit steep !! a quick look on the bay and i found one for 12 quid ha !! although when i actually started the strip down to get the thing back on the road . . . the previous owner had already fitted one !! happy days . . .

edit;

looking at his post again . . . it would seem to imply that yes it is labeled in mph and eskee . . . your completely wrong !!

nevermind i suppose i'll go find somewhere else to stick my nose in :-P better still go to bed . . . all this bike chat is just so addictive !!

Hi guys, no i do not have 1 of those blue speedo converter things, and no its not just a sticker overlay, it is a proper MPH face that goes upto 140mph i think it was but the odometre says "km" or something like that, so im guessing the bike is still goin to be restricted to the 180kph but as my clock face is in mph fitting 1 of those blue speedo converter's will not get rid of the 180kph restriction would it? as the speedo is already goin up in mph  :? confused . . .

when i say mph dial face thats exactly what i am referring to.all it means is where the 180kph use to be it now says 110 or to be precise 112mph.

now if you fit a converter it will stop the restriction as the needle will never go far enough to trigger the switch....downside will be the mph face will be useless.

if you fit the converter and are actually doing 60mph the dial will show up roughly 36-40mph.so i believe the converter to be out of the question.

ahhh, just thinking, if i fit 1 of those blue speedo converter things il have to just read the km's that are underneath the mph, so 10kph will now be 10mph and so on . . .

Cheers for your help guys
