a few questions
hi just got an nc30 needs some work doing to get it back on road.
my first question is i got the bike about 6 months ago and was running ok. i tried starting it the other day with a booster pack and no battery connected and i had also taken off the reg rectifier it wouldnt start but the engine was turning over would this be why it wouldnt start?
second is will an nc24 rear wheel fit my bike and would an nc24 front tyre fit it also?
3. the plastic lugs that hold riders seat have both brocken off the 1 is completly missing is there a quick fix to hold the seat on?
4 i need a new reg rec the wires that go to it the insulation has started to melt amd char so think its knackered mine is the same as 1s on ebay that are about 23 quid is it worth buying the more expensive 1?
5 i need to replace chain and sprockets i cant get the front sprocket bolt undone ive even put a bar onto the socket and it wont budge if i put any more force on i think the bolt will sheer off and dnt want that happening.
6 want to change the oil what brands do u guys use?
7 would like to change the coolant and flush out the rads doubt it ever been done for a while what do i use to put back in?
8 need new battery what do u recomend?
9 my m8s bike has an extra rubber piece on his side stand mine dont have this and has tendancy to fall over can i get a replacement from sumwhere.
thx matt.

Re: a few questions
firstly welcome to the site.
1) I would take the carb off and give it a good clean out this should help.
2) not sure most nc24 and 30 parts are incompatable
3) Plastex or plastic weld some new tabs on or get a new seat they are cheap enough on the bay
4) always try to get oe parts they are a bit more expensive but worth it.
5) try hitting it with a hammer to shock it / Heat it with a blow torch / or dowse it in penetrative fluid.
6)
7) water and antifreeze at a guess
8)a new battery
9) david silver spares or ebay or a wanted add in this forum

Re: a few questions
Hi and welcome to the site.
No, a 24 wheel is diiferent to a 30 so won't fit.
You'll need some plastex to fabricate some new lugs for the seat to fix to, no drama, ever heard of gravity!
I wouldn't personally buy a cheap NC30 Reg/Rec. Honda ones are notoriously sh*** so I'd prefer a decent one.
The bolt that holds the front sprocket on is tight. You might need loads of WD40 and a big bar. I doubt if you'd shear it off, never heard of it happening but have heard loads of tales of folk struggling to get bolt out. Get yourself a piece of scaffold tube to put onto your T bar.
Don't use fully synthetic or you'll end up with clutch issues. Use whatever semi synthetic is on offer at your local bike shop.
Logically enough I'd put coolant back into your rad. If bike is garaged and not used in winter you don't need anti freeze. Anti freeze sometimes exaggerates leaks so if you don't need it, don't use it.
Use whatever battery you can get get as long as it's the same output size and physical dimensions, it'll be fine.
You don't need the little piece of rubber on the end of your stand and is only for the purest who want their bikes exactly as Mr Honda intended. But that isn't me.
Happy to help and good luck.

Re: a few questions
ok thanks for that i though the rubber thingy was importantant as bloody thing fell over once and wind blown it over aswell. can any 1 tell me if the bike will start without a rectifier attached? i will try soaking it with realising oil but i dont think much will be able to get down it i did have a couple of pieces of tube on my t bar and im quite a strong guy the force i was putting on it was gettin towards shearing it off. i had this happen with my crf250 was nightmare had to drill it out and re tap it.

Re: a few questions
Hi Matt,
Not sure if the vrf will start without a regulator but i know my 92 fireblade does. I wouldnt have thought the electrics are much different so would expect it to start. Have you got the battery on it and fully charged? i would do that rather than trying to start it off the booster pack. Giving the carbs a clean, new plugs and fresh fuel should help as well.
Oh, and put the coolent in before running it, no point in getting it running and then have it overheat!
The rubber thing does help keep the bike from moving a bit but it could be that your stand is bent or the suspension has been played with so the bike is standing too upright?

Re: a few questions
Not sure if bike will run with Recg/Rec missing.
If you drown the front sprocket bolt in WD40 or similar and keep at it, it'll finally move. I would be very suprised if it sheered off, famous last words.

Re: a few questions
It could be, I don't think its a good idea to try and run the bike without the reg/rec and battery.. what are / were you trying to do?matt1234 wrote:hi just got an nc30 needs some work doing to get it back on road.

No / No. 130/70/18R - 100/90/16F (NC24) 150/60/18R - 120/60/17F (NC30)
3. the plastic lugs that hold riders seat have both brocken off the 1 is completly missing is there a quick fix to hold the seat on?
Drill some holes thru it and screw on some brakets or something similar. Not pretty but it should do.
4 i need a new reg rec the wires that go to it the insulation has started to melt amd char so think its knackered mine is the same as 1s on ebay that are about 23 quid is it worth buying the more expensive 1?
Yes. Honda Reg/Recs are known to be crappy on these bikes, there are many options available.. Yamaha Rsomething? are quite a common choice.. do a search? I use These guys for my reg/recs and altenators. IF the reg recs failing make sure you have a decent battery on the bike.. a tired battery will stress the reg rec out and can speed up the melting.
5 i need to replace chain and sprockets i cant get the front sprocket bolt undone ive even put a bar onto the socket and it wont budge if i put any more force on i think the bolt will sheer off and dnt want that happening.
Are there any locking nuts / tabs on the 30? I can't see it sheering off but you never know.. I use This stuff on every stiff bolt now and its never let me down, it freezes the bolts to break rust, fantastic stuff, might be worth a go.
6 want to change the oil what brands do u guys use?
You may have clutch slip issues with fully synth oil, especailly when the oil is first put in. I usually stick with the recommended oil and change it often. Although I do have fully synth Eneos 0w50 in the NC24 at the moment a friend sent to me and I got clutch slip at high revs for the first 150 miles or so.
7 would like to change the coolant and flush out the rads doubt it ever been done for a while what do i use to put back in?
50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water is recommended.
8 need new battery what do u recomend?
That one
9 my m8s bike has an extra rubber piece on his side stand mine dont have this and has tendancy to fall over can i get a replacement from sumwhere.
You mean the wear indicator? That shouldn't stop the bike falling over, but davidsilverspares.co.uk or lings.com should be able to get you one no problem.
