sat and sun where my first runs out on the bike since the accident and since the bike was sat up for 5 odd months i thought it might be a nice idea to stick a few 100mls of REDEX in the tank along with the new petrol,i didn't notice the bike bogging down or idling funny,i just thought it might help clean parts of the carbs i maybe couldn't get to with carb cleaner.

140kms later i get back to the house and remove the tank for something,did the usual,fuel tap OFF,remove vacuum and fuel pipe,then it started ,drip drip drip outta the fuel tap,i sat the tank on the ground and watched as my petrol money was slowly dripping out of the tank and running down my yard ....

i turn the tap ON and fuel gushes out,i turn it OFF and it still drips,reserve ... you guessed it ,fuel gushing out.
now i have never had any problems with this tap before,i took it apart today to make sure i wasn't HRC modded or i had fitted the wrong tap to the wrong bike but it's all as it should be,all the bits are there they just aren't working.

could the few 100mls of REDEX ate the life outta my tap in the space of 6-7 hours. could crap have built up in the tap and the REDEX has removed it hence the leak,or could my 15yr old tap just be beyond repair and this is the first signs of age on the old girl ...

i don't fancy buying the repair kit incase it's not going to fix it,i don't fancy buying a 2nd hand tap to find out it has the same problem and i really do not want to go to HONDA and ask the price of a new tap,my pockets are deep but not that deep...

has anyone had this fault,what did you do or whats reccommended for a leaking tap ?

also,if someone wants to HRC there perfectly fine fuel tap i have just the one to swap you

Hopefully not the redex option, I use it frequently in my tank and no problems to date.

good glad to hear that also as i took a tap from another bike and re-used the the REDEX petrol to get my to work tomorrow lol

how long did you wait after having the bike running before removing the tank????

i had this with my nc30,if i took the tank off straight away after running it,it would drip out.sometimes pish out.

if i waited a wee bit it was fine.

i must have waited around 30 mins before i took it off, i thought 15odd litres might be the culprit and emptied the tank ,but there's alway a bit you can't get it,but it's only say half a ltr and it still dripped ....

Rhory I have exactly this problem on my road nc. When the tap is turned to 'off' petrol still drips out. In fact drip is a bit of an understatement, I rode it for 100km's on 'off' the other day, only realised when I gave it some and the fuel bowls dried up...

Petrol taps are too pricey new, I just ended up putting a basic plastic inline tap in the supply hose between the tap and the tank, it's worked a treat.

I'm with Cameron on this one mate. For how much the seal kits are I'd rather just get an inline fuel coupler then you'll have no old man dribbles down your jeans when you take the tank off in the future .

it's not when the tanks off that conserns me guys it's the idea of it dripping down into the carbs and then them over floiing into the engine again ...

or am i being a tad dramatic ?

if the carb bowls fill, and the float rises, does that not in itself cut off further petrol flow?

true. but this is a honda v4 400cc bike with gear driven cams and the laws of our physical universe need not apply :D
