In a previous post i mentioned about a stinkin smell from the battery. I have rigged up a mini voltmeter to monitor the voltage when riding. At standstill it was 13.01 volts at idle and 14.04 at 5000rpm but while riding the voltage got to 18.6 volts at 5000. This is too high is it not. I have checked the alternator and the resistance was fine and everything checked out using the haynes manual. I have 3 rectifiers and all could not be measured at all. No readings what so ever.
I have just ordered a new rectifier and have borrowed a battery off riley. Is there anything else it could be.

Re: Charging Problem on NC35
100% a dead rectifier. I would be looking at the wiring as well from the generator to the rectifier - make sure the plugs and connectors are not charred etc as this can cause issues in the future.
Lucky your battery never went pop!

ditto, dead rectifier. you'll most likely need a new battery too.
if you can, get a non honda one - i had a yamaha one IIRC wired onto my old nc30, never failed.

Trouble is the one i had on there was an electrex one so just hope the new one lasts a bit longer. How do i know if the battery is knacked, it is still holding a charge fine and no signs of drop off when left. It has only been on the bike a short while.

Re: Charging Problem on NC35
your lucky you got it in time, the reg/rec has stopped regulating the voltage from the alternator.
like cmsmj1 says check all wires and see if any are burnt out.chances are the battery is fooked but charge it up and leave for a few days and see if it holds a charge.
