CMSMJ1 - race bike build thread

Post by CMSMJ1 » Tue Dec 30, 2008 6:03 pm

Afternoon All,

Thought I would bore you with lots of pics and ramblings regarding my bike I am building in my attempt to go and race next year. It will be fairly bodgetastic as I am not going to have the coin to throw at it I would like to. However..it will be setup and fettled using knowledge gleaned form these very pages and hopefully it can be used to show some of you what things can be done to the NC30 to make it work better (or not done...)

The basics are these..
1: - One F reg NC30 (used to be White_sliders off the old forum until he rammed a car with it and broke the forks and front cylinder engine mounts) It was sold to IFTNFS and then on to my mate Grandad....who left it unloved and non running for over a year. :Soap:
2: I decided I wanted to go racing otherwise I will never do it so I started to strip my main NC down (no9) :o
3: I realised this was a dumb idea pretty quickly and asked if Grandad wanted to sell me his NC which had recently moved into my garage as he had no room.. A she is a good lad he said yes! 8-)
4: Bike moved into my main garage and I started to take it apart :geek:
5: Am going to create a pictoral thread with decent info on each stage so we can get some good info ongoing and this will be a tester for various stages of total loss, programmable CDI, airbox and carbs, shock setting and std shock rebuild (done by me..lol) along with various other stuff that gets done on the way. :ugeek:  :ugeek:

Pics and aditonal info to follow but I have to go out and get drunk now as my wife turned 31 today and so chow and schooner time! :Puke:

good to seee your starting a thread, il be watching closely to help set mine up for racing, iv just got a oil filter collar lockwiring jobbie sorted through Gazzahh (very nice indead) and looks like iv got an nsr 250 throttle (quicker action) sorted for £10 so the bikes getting more race'y as we speak, interested on what your gona do to the suspension tho as you on a similar budget to me (non existant)

o if you gona get wets on wheels for cheep iv decided im going for an nc23 front wheel (ment to be lighter and cheeper than nc30) and a bros rear (17in but heavy) hopefully i can get the pair for £100

Just a quick one - I have an NC23 wheel for my no9 - it is good shit.

Would not go for a Bros wheel if you gave it to me..too heavy.too shoddy.

you can get 18" wets no worries

@ Oli = cheers mate/

I hope this is going to be a kickass thread 8-)

For sure there is!

We might be a bit ahead of time over here, but it's still only midday new years eve, plenty of time left for shennigans (oh, and I only just got up! )

Big party planned Aussie style tonight mate: fill the bath with ice and beers, crank up the bbq and hit some tunes with the gang!

Good luck it will be the best thing you have ever done , you will go through loads of shit before you actually get to the start line of your first race but it will be worth it

Word of warning though you must make it competative .It is usually best (cheapest) to buy a ready track bike then go from there ,nothing worse than being beaten by a lesser rider on a f***ing fast bike

Have fun will be keeping a look out on here for any mods worth trying

Pete

Yes but someone has offered me a supply of scrubbed wets for cheep but there pirelli's and so dont do a 18in rear, only bridgestone do and there about twice the price, and tbh if im gona be riding in the wet i doubt a heavy rear wheel is gona be the major factor slowing me down (and its always something to blame lol) do you know how much lighter you nc23 wheel is that an nc30 front? and where do you ge them from, cant find any for sale theres at least 10 rears on ebay no fronts
