NC23 rear wheel swap

Post by LordMcThor » Mon Mar 21, 2022 1:38 pm

Back on 400greybike after a little leave of absence (almost 10 years!)

Anyone know if the NC27 wheel will drop straight onto the NC23? I'm sick of faffing with 18 inch rear tyres :x

I believe it will with minimal mods. As far as I can remember the swingarm is the same on the NC23 and the CB400. If memory serves you'll need to swap out spindle, chain adjusters and possibly the spacers. Can't remember if the discs are the same so you may need to swap out the caliper & mount.

I think your 10 year leave of absence has ended just in time for you to witness the death of our (notice I say OUR) 400greybike forum as we know it. From the end of this month we will no longer be able to post on this site. Apparently the reason is too many members taking long term leave of absence, or pissing off to Facebook or something. The moral of the story is use it or lose it.

I'm sure he didn't take offence, none was intended. Hopefully LordMcThor will join the new 400 forum..and this time not piss off for 10 years

I'm joking!

I think I answered your post on Facebook but basically the NC27 rear wheel is only a 4 x 17" so you will struggle to fit anything much wider than a 140 tyre also the NC27 spindle is only 17mm so you will need to swap out the bearings to suit (The NC23 has a 20mm spindle) - I've never got round to it but I did look into fitting a NC29 wheel into a NC27 and it looks as though it is possible apart from the bearings

Thinking about it, would an NC29 rear end implant not be easier? I'm fairly sure that the NC29 swingarm will fit.

I think Graeme France used to advertise MC21 wheels as a straight swap for the NC23 rear wheel... but these are pretty rare.
