Strange NC30 electrical issue!

Hello, went out for a ride today after doing some carb work, pulled up at the petrol station to get some fuel, turned my key to the off position... and nothing happened. The bike wouldn't turn off. I shut the engine off with the killswitch, but the instrument cluster stayed lit up, and headlights stayed on.
The key doesn't seem to do anything when turned to the off position. I had a quick look at the cabling coming down from the barrel assembly, and it seems fine. The issue remained even with the connector from the ignition assembly to the loom detached (bike still 'on').
Before I go pulling the loom apart looking for faults, does anybody have any idea of what might be causing this issue?
