NC31 Carb balance

Post by mbond65 » Sun Nov 01, 2015 3:02 pm

Hello all,

I'm looking to do my first carb sync on my NC31, have all the gear but notice the adjustment screws are in an awkward position.

For anyone who's done a carb sync before, what do you use to access the adjustment screws please?

Thanks
Mbond65

When I did mine I removed the tank and seat and placed the tank on the frame where the seat sat, I then syphoned fuel from the tank directly into the pipe that feeds the carbs to make sure the bike would keep running during the adjustment.
I used a long shaft screwdriver needs to be about 10 inches long (25/26mm) knowing exactly where the adjusting screws are helps because they are difficult to see even with the tank removed.
The use of a very small mirror that can be placed so that you can view the screws also helps .
The screwdriver I used was an ordinary flat blade (about 2mm) that just fitted into the Philip headed screws, its a case of trial and error .
There are only 3 screws to adjust the settings, with the final tickover adjustment being the large plastic knurled nut under the carb bodies between 2 and 3 cylinders.

I was planning to make a short video showing people how to do it, I've been working on a new youtube channel recently and have created several videos showing DIY bits and bobs for the NC31, I've noticed there are barely any NC31 videos on youtube..

Once I've done the carb balance video, I will post it on this forum just incase any needs help or guidance with anything. I recently checked and adjusted valve clearances but didn't record it, I will be doing a valve clearance video sometime in the future, along with other general NC31 videos.

Thanks for the Video mbond65. I plan on taking my SF out of storage soon and this video will held. A video of the valve clearance would be just as welcome. I went and bought myself a NC750x and the wife thinks ill be selling the SF  Hopefully I will still own it for a few more years :peace:
